best ive seen on navara usaully orrible things got given main part of snorkel for d22 it looked uggggggly so gave mate for his r3m

usual navara ones end to low halfway up windscreen dont look right

They do or did have a UK importer, but price was about £600 painted 8O 8O

A safari snorkel is is about £200, so if you really think you need a snorkel, might be worth looking at one of those. But while a snorkel might seem a good idea there is a lot more to do in terms of axle & gearbox breeathers, removing the viscous fan and fitting an electric fan, and the bottom line is enter water deep enough to need a snorkel and the ecu runs the risk of becoming wet - it is inside the car behind the centre console.

I'd probably turn back if I came across water that deep, snorkel or not.

ive gota move my rear breather diff was full water and now sounds very rumbly lol

i e-mailed safari snorkels and they don't make snorkels to fit maverick/terrano11. luckily my maverick has already got twin elec fans and no ecu so all i'll need to to do is fit gearbox and axle breathers
plus if we get anymore floods like we did this summer i would rather have a snorkel than not. i had flood water just below the windows, mav performed great but would rather be safe than sorry and get water in the air intake, bye bye mav

Remember going into cold water with a hot turbo is also not a good idea, I have heard horror stories of cracked blocks and turbos.

They are the most ugly snorkels I have seen, looks like a leach!

i got water in cab if id kept going up i reckon id got ecu wet now thats scarry as its gonna stall car and suck water up exaust as it was i killed alarm and imobiliser!

T2/Mavs come with extended breathers as standard. The fan thing is only really an issue if you enter water with a piping hot engine, as the fan shouldn't be driving fully so will stall as it enters the water and its well of the rad (at least on mine) anyway, its not like its a solid fan with no viscous.

Have to say I would rather like a snorkel as I've been in some seriously deep water, but with no problems to date. However I've just removed the carpet and there are a number of open holes in the floor and there are some great big vent holes behind the rear bumper too. Will post a pattern for a blanking piece for the vent holes once I've made some and blocked mine.

Long thread on snorkels etc. including the safari option for later T2's

the rear axle doesn't have an extended breather - at least not on a 2001 model, and its an easy job to extend it to the front & into the engine bay.

The fan problem is twofold; a viscous fan has a really annoying habit of spraying water & mud around the engine bay, as do all the pulleys under the bonnet, but it may also pull itself forward & into the rad. Don't know what the clearance is between rad 7 fan on a T2, but heard this before from people with V8 series LR's.

Must just be the earlier ones with the extended breather.

I know what you mean about the fan chucking stuff about, its potentially even more of a problem with a petrol, having all the ignition side of things to worry about but I've not found it a problem at all, likewise with the fan pulling into the rad, wheres theres probably 3" of clearance.

I spent quite a bit of time stood still in water most of the way up the doors (which is well up the radiator) when I was ferrying police officers around in Grimsby during the recent flooding with no ill effects, except from gradual water ingress through the floor pan. Never even noticed water inside at the time but th carpet was still wet this weekend when I took it out.

I figure if you go on to ebay, you could get all the bits to make your own snorkel.
I figure £250 is too much let alone £450.

The chap who bought my old patrol, fitted it with a DIY snorkel, bits from B & Q on the cheap. If you look carefully on the nearside front wing /windscreen of this pic you can just about work it out.

they do seem dear pretty sure most of its gonna be standard across range just few elbows etc unique to car it meant for

Some very nice photos of some "done up" Patrols in there gallery too.
