Anybody out there able to help me out please, I'm after a snorkel kit for my petrol maverick.
Are there any kits avail. or is it back to the shed for a one off?
Cheers

Iv'e only seen one snorkel,it was for a T2 and i think they are from oz,not very bonnie though!! :?

Typical, there seems to be a shortage of UK based bolt ons for these trucks.
How do you get on with the diesel in deep water?

I've never had my TDI in deep water but have heard they cope well  Hummingbird on the other hand has had water upto or over his bonnet & has'nt had any probs & his is a petrol :p

If 'pretty' doesn't matter then I would construct your own using nothing more than a length or two of plastic drain pipe and some of that flexible air ducting. A friend of mine made his own snorkel for his jeep...cost very little but 100% effective

That is a beast!!! imagine the bobble hat brigade's faces when they see that coming towards them... 8O
Snorkel looks really good on that motor, don't think it would on your Mav!!

Evening, i did not think you can fit snorkels to petrol motors. Gordon.

Why ever not?

Need to seal the electrics, but a petrol engine will run underwater with a snorkel, just like a diesel.

Plastic drainpipe comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes...must be somthing that would suit the Mav....

But it's too brittle, you end up with way too many joints to seal and looks pretty naff too. Looks ok on something utilitarian like Jeep or Defender but personally I think a T2/Mav needs something better.

Brittle !!! naw it hangs on the outside of hooses fer years m8..nothin brittle about plastic drainpipe...in fact its almost indestructable...where did ya get brittle from ?

Are we talking about getting a vehicle up to it armpits in water here or some kind of fashion parade
Sure you can pay hundreds of pounds for a designer snorkel or you can construct your own for pennies.

Fashion statement or something cheap that does exactly what its supposed to do ?

Actully if you were really clever you could construct a snorkel in such a way that it was removable....attach it for offroading ..detach for posing

Bit of imagination and you could make it look pretty good too I reckon

Hit it against something and you'll see what I mean, seen a few get broken on trees out laning, I'm trying to blag some polyurethane stuff from a customer of mine, should be able to bend that too with a little heat if not can cut and plastic weld it to form joints. And I stand by the joints thing, just one leak and its as good as useless.

snorkel

Hi guys thanks for all your input. Been out messin with the beastie for a couple of days so just read through them now.
I came to the same conclusion that diy was the way to go, AND have made up a few roughs with bits of drain pipe. Solvent weld the joins and its pressure proof easily.
Also got some kitchen extractor ducting which is rectangular plastic, but limited on angles for joins.
I've got no pretence of fashion just dont want to suck up any tadpoles!
Pictures up by next weekend of any final result.
Cheers

Nice one m8...looking forward to the results of your creativity....don't forget to post your photos

Im converting a landrover snorkel to fit my vitara iv done one in the past to my fourtrak. looks so much better than plastic drain pipe il list pics when fitted.

Very nice m8,wonder if you could mod one for the T2??

That does look very neat   I had been wondering if one would fit onto a T2 as you can pick them up for about £65 off ebay IIRC
