ive an air sheet metal nibbler dunno what kindve job that would do never used it!

sounds perfect for this job, question i have has any member actually attemped this mod? if so input would be great!

lookin at a different safari snorkle, a little extra but may be better suited as my air intake towards the front and this one may suit better.

they all intake from the front nearside, the one that i pictured will enter near door and tube travel inside wing to front intake connection

How big a hole are we looking at? Does the pipe pass through the wing with a grommet or does it flange joint onto both sides, requiring a smaller hole.

I've got some of THESE (can't remember the proper name for them right now) but none big enough to pass a pipe through and the biggest available on that website is 2" though they do say they can do other sizes.

They are a really neat way of cutting a hole in sheet steel, perfectly round etc. If one is available big enough it might be worth the club buying one and hiring it out as people fit their snorkels.

they are for puching a hole through, i think this will damage wing more via denting

I have some diagrams on how they are fitted but not sure how to add them to this topic.

Shark1e

I have emailed them to you although they are not for a Nissan it should be roughly the same fittings.

It calls them a punch but that is a bad description.

They work using 2 parts (one either side of the metal) and then a bolt that you tighten down as the 2 parts are puller together they cut a hole, without deforming the metal around them.

To use them you have to drill a hole in the centre of the hole you want to cut to pass the bolt through and you need to be able to get to the back to put the other part in place.

Theres a better picture and explanation HERE

The punches are shown in the box with the cutting edge facing out and nested with the other part, in use the poits and cutting edge would be facing the blind half.

Better still scroll down to item number 8 - Greenlee Knockout die

this is actualy fitted on a maverick but i can't show the maverick just yet

no he's got to wait for the news letter

Hi, just reading the forum re hole punches, I have used these for panels, however the metal has to be flat, so as you tighten the bolt the metal has to touch the die all round, so if you cut through the wing (as it is curved) it could distort the metal, however the wing is quite thin and may spring back. Worth trying on a scrap wing first.

I've used them in the past on lightly curved panels and you can get away with it - if you've used them you'll know how much better than nibbleds/shears etc they are.

nibblers or hole saws could kick back and you will have one heck of a mess.. For the same reason you dont want to use a drill and file principle.
If it was scrap heap challenge they would go for the angle grinder or oxy/acetelene

my plasma cutter died on mates generator i read destructions after saying not to be used on a generator typical man thing eh!

Bet your mate wasn't too happy about you cutting his generator up either.

gene killed my grinder aswell some scroat robbed it in end i couldnt have been happier ! £1100 down drain we were cutting my mates name into his race car looked a bit daft half done lol!

home made snorkle

hi been looking around for doner parts .
stack from JCB (exhaust pipe stainless steel). idea is to face it backwards and weld fluets or what ever over the end to stop birds nesting in it :p cannot be much higher than roof or cannot get in garage.
wing rotten anyway so grinder will surfice.
problebly weld a tube aka (exhaust pipe) between inner and outer wing
and connect with right angle rubber hose to stack.
connect other end to air cleaner canister in place of existing pickup pipe.
with more rubber hose .SEE siliconhoses.com /scorpion racing.co.uk.for an idea of fixings
saw a landrover moddified in a simular way great big plate pop rivited to wing where pipe came through.
WELL IT WAS A LANDROVER.
rgds.
iandouglas

im reserving judgement till i see it on car it dont look that pretty as it is mind you theyve probly got a parts bin and use different bits changed round to suit different motors so may have updated design

Provisioanlly interested, but would like to see the fitted product first.

Put me down for one please? If and when they become available.
