So now have all my bits for making my snorkel (3.5" stainless :naughty)

Question is, what's the best way to protect the bare metal after I cut into the wing and also drill the holes for the rivnuts? Needs to look tidy as it will be on view.

Some of the Aussies suggest clear nail varnish? :nenau

I just used a fine run of hammerite, although auto correct recommends Hammerstein which might be more your thing:nenau
Usually the snork covers the hole.
If not a run of rubber grommet strip to tidy things up visually:thumb2

Yeh my snorks silicone joints and stainless pipe so the hole won't be covered.

Cheers guys, I'll whack a wee bit of hammerite on and cover with grommet strip :thumb2

If you use a hole saw and make the hole 10 mm smaller than the pipe, then with a short bit of say scaffold pipe place the pipe in the hole at a slight angle and tap with a reasonable hammer dressing the metal to form a flange, as work progresses use a pipe nearer to the finish size to obtain a neat round hole, this method makes the wing at this point stronger and is far easier to seal, and only takes about half an hour, if you do not use a hole saw then you need to make sure there are no stress raisers/nicks in the cut or there is a danger of splitting when dressing the flange, I used this method on Alex snorkel, so may have pics of this on his thread, Rick

Ooh!
Barrbeasts hammers start at 14lb for a tap hammer:augie moving to a Hammer of Dawn then to a full blown Thor jobbie!:thumb2
Best we stick with a paint brush and a bit of stickky paint:thumb2

Haha Steve you know me too well :lol

I like that idea Rick, see how I get on :thumb2 Using a hole saw but don't have a massive range of sizes.
