One thing thats just jogged the memeory cells mentioned to me this morning about this, does anyone remember the launch of Shell Power Plus in the 80's ??
That created quite a stir with its carbon and other cleaning properties :thumb2
Hi Dave I think it was called Formula Shell:augie
Getting back to the soot problem, these engines have a mini fuel filter in the banjo bolt at the pump, if its blocked it can cause soot. You can't remove the mini filter the same as a T2, but you can clean it with some air if required.
2.8RDETi mini filter is located inside the fuel return line banjo bolt, on the injection pump. If the engine is blowing black smoke the mini filter should be checked.
If you remove the banjo bolt it is possible to clean the gauze (filter)
1. Remove the return line banjo bolt from the injection pump.
2. Using aerosol type carb cleaner clean the inside of the filter, make sure the bleed hole in the bolt is clear.
3. If the filter can't be cleared, renew the banjo bolt and filter as an assembly. Fit new washers.
THE RETURN LINE IS NOT THE MAIN LINE FROM FUEL FILTER TO INJECTION PUMP. It is the return to tank line.
If the filter is blocked it forces excess fuel into the engine instead of going back to the fuel tank.
Hope this helps:thumbs
