I have done a search and couldn't find anything useful.

Does anyone know what causes excessive play in the linkage? My drivers side arm moves right up the the screen rubber now and it's something I want to sort. I can get a 94 motor and linkage if this would be the same?

I love the truck, it's been the best "normal" vehicle I have ever owned so things like this are on my "to sort" list as I'd like to keep the truck long term.

Any advice would be great, Thanks

My memory isn't the best so heres what i recall of mine doing that....................

it started doing exactly what you describe then stopped all together although I could hear the motor whirring away.

what had happened was the single nut holding the mechanism onto the motor spindle had come undone. I understand its a reasonably common problem.

Mine was fixed by 2 white knuckle tightening down, a new lock washer and a bit of loctite thread compound to make sure.

The bit I cant remember too clearly was what had to come off to get at it. It was a bit of a faff im pretty certain the black trim has to come off and then its a bit of a tight access but you can get in :thumb2

Cheers for that, I'll have a gander tomorrow.

I'm fairly sure that my mate (previous owner) said it was play in the linkage not motor, I can move the drivers side arm and the passengers side stays still, If the motor side splines were spinning then both would move together?

I agree and I honestly cant remember how the linkages work and if mine did that. I just know it went daft :thumb2

Ah well, if that's the case I'll leave it. Being daft will match the driver :D

I have ordered that '94 linkage and motor so I have spares coming. May just wait till that turns up and swap the whole lot over. Can imagine that's going to be a glorious job. :(

Don't be apprehensive...its a fairly easy job to get to all the wiper stuff.Lift bonnet,,,,undo all the little screws holding the black plastic trim thingy under windscreen.Close bonnet...undo both nuts holding wiper arms to spindles....pull off arms...they may be on quite tight...careful use of screwdriver to prise em off....don't crack the screen in the process.Remove black trim thingy with bonnet up...I had to bend mine a little to wiggle it out...it does come out though.

From memory there are a couple of rectangular panels that are held on by 10mm bolts..take em off ...remove panels to observe the motor and connecting arms assembly...its obvious how to remove them.

As I say pretty straight forward to do.

A little tip to remove wiper arms, remove nut and fold arm right of the screen so they are pointing forward then rock the arm at 90 deg to the pivot, no tools needed and even the tightest will just wiggle off, re the sloppy joints they are just pop on ball joints new connecting rod with the plastic cups in will sort it, I have seen excessive wear on the spindles, just a thee bolt nylon block should not be dear even from Nissan, Rick

Superb advice gents, most helpful and made the job pretty simple.

On removing the trim panel I kinda guessed someone has been here before!

I spoke to my colleague who owned the mav before me and he had warned me there was silicone under there but Jesus H Christ!
Once I had managed to prise the silicone off and remove those panels I started pulling the linkage out and it fell apart before it came out of the scuttle :doh it was the centre knuckle that was shot to bits.

I guess it was held on by pure luck, The hole was massively worn too.
All went back together quickly until we hit quite a large hitch. There was a massive spanner that was fitting the system and got confuzzeled by which position to put the linkage on the motor :thumbs

Took a couple of attempts and I sussed it out. Quiet as a mouse now.

Also fitted my ebay summer wheels as the insa MTs cause a huge vibration at 50mph.

I paid £65 for the four wheels with good tyres and the seller was half hour drive away.

Tyres are on the small side but they will do until I feel the need to replace them. Drives spot on with them on. Just need to do pass side front drop link now :D

Now that silicon is very untidy, and it is only the bottom right screw that lets the water in. The water drops down through the heater and causes the passenger side foot well carpet to get wet.
When I did mine, I removed the panel and sealed under that, then a blob on the screws, and a thin bead of sealer around the perimeter, smoothed off with a wet finger.

Totally agree, It's hideous!

I need to get a couple of replacement metal panels then I'll strip it all clean and replace the silicone as you mentioned. Or I'll get some neoprene and make some gaskets.

Why someone decided that was a good idea I don't know!

The neoprene seal won't cure it on it's own, what it is , is the white plastic clip that holds the bottom right screw ends up with a gap all round it, water puddles in that lower corner then seeps in, so concentrate on that one screw.

Re silicon, you can get a silicone remover from DIY stores, or screwfix etc

I have the metal panels, if you want them I will be coming dartford crossing up to A12 heading Gt Yarmouth tomorrow and returning Monday, if that is close enough to meet at some point then Pm me for my phone number before 11pm going to bed then, Rick

Hi Rick, Thanks for the offer but I'll try some silicone remover first. My mate is a plumber, I've just spoken to him and he has some remover :thumb2

Thanks again and if I need them I'll send some pennies/pounds/gold bullion your way.
