Skipped a tooth!!! Y61

Hi everyone, happy Christmas though I had a sting in the tail on Christmas Eve going up Titsey Hill B269 bear the Bottley Arms pub Surrey dropped into third gear and it stopped dead! Had the AA come out and he reckons it’s skipped a tooth on the timing chain, first he thought it was a snapped chain but think it’s the latter skipped tooth. So my question is can anyone recommend a good diesel mechanic in the Surrey South Croydon Area? Just had the suspension replaced with iron man springs and shocks all round and all the swivel housing overhauled, can’t do without the old beast it’s like a Swiss Army knife, jack of all trades. I tried a new shape Toyota landcruiser this year but preferred the Nissan and so did the wife! So would rather keep the old Nissan going, Any info on mechanics would be much appreciated, happy new year!

Anyhoo, what engine is it?

I’m always sceptical at recover drivers saying what it is especially with vehicles they don’t always see. I’m sure someone else will be along with more knowledge but probably a little slower than normal due to the festivities.

Yeh dude, need to know the engine although I'm guessing it could be the 3.0 as 2.8 is timing belt.

I would check the Aussie Trol forums like patrol4x4.com and nissanpatrol.au as this is detailed Trol engine stuff dude.

Yes sorry guys it’s a ZD30 3.0 d 2003 Patrol Y61, I’m just going by what the guy from the AA said but it certainly fits the bill with skipped tooth, going up a steep hill dropping to third from fourth and giving it the beans and then it just died, and sounds like compression gone on one of the cylinders.

Mileage is around 177k so it’s done a few miles but done a fair bit of work to it over the years like I said had all the suspension done, swivel housing overhaul, new bumpers, iron man snorkel, new fuel tank, it’s also got a roof tent and awning so I e been a few places with it Croatia a few years back and a trip to Spain.

Just had a recall from Nissan for the replacement of the passenger airbag, sent with a graphic illustration on how the airbag can explode and send shrapnel into the cabin! Suffice to say it has been replaced at a cost of £500 for Nissan!
