Hi I'm looking for a front skid plate to protext the expensive bits under my x-trail whilst greenlaning. Anyone any idea where I may be able to get one from?
Cheers,
Ian

Ain't got one on mine either although I can see what is left of the fasteners!

The one on my old Mav came loose so had to fix that back on with Bollof thread inserts and stainless screws.

Well worth having even if more as a skid than a guard, the cross member tends to really dig in without one.

I agree with HB as i've had to reshape mine with a large hammer a few times  but I would hate to think of the cost if it had been my sump :(

thanks

yes - spotted them on tbr website. useful mant thanks - they sell them for the terranno ii there as well

Supplimentary Question

The skid plate for the xtrail is great but also heavy (15Kg) and 6cm thick. it drops the clearance at the front of the car by around 7mm. I'm considering changing the shock and coils (front and back) to enhance the ride and to facilitate my use of the vehicle (lots of `green lane' type driving) and to raise the suspension overall by around 20mm to an inch if I can.

There are plenty of good coils around that will do this (from tbr and OEC for example). However, they only seem to supply bare struts (which need the bits such as coil base to be welded onto them to make them work on the xtrail), rather than ready to fit shocks. This welding is beyond my DIY skills and adds around £350 to the cost. Can I ask if anyone is aware of *suitable* shocks (ie better than standard) that are ready to fit to the x-trail and are designed to accommodate that degree of lift?

Any advice welcomed.
Thanks,

Should look like THIS

mine used to look like that... it looks like a screwed up peice of tin foil now...

im guessing although the skid plate is dead now and beyond repair i was luck to have had one on. or it could have been expensive

i just need another one now

Thanks,

I would need to have a good look over an xtrail to really work out what is needed. I suspect the problem is the are on Macpherson struts alround. This really limits what can be done unless you can find another model with the same fitment but longer struts. The problem is whilst the bodies themselves can be fairly interchangable the fitments tend to be unique. It may be possible to fit longer inserts to the standard bodies - again if suitable ones can be found.

Another possibility is to use an extender on the piston rod to effectively lengthen the strut. This won't gain you any travel as you'd need to extend your bump stops to compensate but you would retain standard travel just at a higher ride height.

What sort of price are thy asking for lift springs for these vehicles, I might beable to get some sorted at a better price. Also have you got a ink to these shock kits so I can see what they are selling.

Shocks

Yes humminbird. The front shocks look exactly like that - and you can see the bits that need welding to a strut. Many thanks also for the name of one that may be able to help with the rear suspension. Thats a supplier I've not heard of!
Cheers.

Springs and things

Hi - thanks for that.
OEC have a coil with a 1" lift sold in pairs for £134 per pair - see:
http://www.oec4x4.com/index.php?opt...op.browse&category_id=1266&Itemid=54&vmcchk=1

And tbruk
( http://www.tbruk.com/ ) have a coil with a 20mm lift and OME struts that need welding onto.

tbr prices are £65 for each coil and £75 for each bare OME strut.

I've since found that tbr germany are distributors for an adjustable strut from hotcars that may possibly fit the xtrail too. I've enquired about this with tbruk as its not listed in their catalogue.

Thanks for the new link. Much appreciated. I'll have a look.
I'm beginning to realise that I may have difficulty in upgrading without some welding to the strut and may sit and think about this until after Christmas (when i hopefully will also have some more cash!)
