Hi. Does anyone know what the length the 8mm bolts are that hold the skid plate on a Terrano 2 (and how many there are). My Terrano's in Spain, and I'm taking over a skid plate for it - sods law I'll take the wrong length!

I'm pretty sure they are M6 not M8 - not sure on length, but could whip one out and look inthe morning. I've replaced mine with stainless caphead, much easier to get out again after they've been scraped across rocks etc and the hex head has lost its shape - button headed cap heads would e even better.

Hi Tyrranosaurus. Thanks for that, if you could have a look for me I would really appreciate it!

They are M6 mine are hexagon headed, 3 at the front 2 at the back, I would guess they are 30mm long.
I coat mine in Waxoyl every time I undo them.
Best regards, Rustic.

Sorry so long getting back.

Yes they are M6 - the ones I fitted when I changed them are 20mm long wic I would say are perhaps overly long 16mm (next size down for most suppliers) might be more appropriatte especially if using non stainless ones as mine were hard enough to get out due to crud on the threads, if they'dbee usty too would have been a right pain - copper slip for bolts - waxoyl for panels.

Don't use copperslip with St/St fixings and aluminium plate.... there's a good metallurgical reason about corrosion n shit!!! just normal grease or "waxoyl" should be fine and your Aluminium will not corode!!!

I dipped mine in old engine oil :thumbs

Na, anything goes in the tank :lol :augie :thumbs

Thanks for that Terranosaurus, I've bought some M6 x 30mm st/st button heads so I'll cut them down to 16mm. I'll take some Copperslip with me too.

go on..........................

I thought copaslip prevented just that! (intergalvanic and oxidisation) Been using it for years and after you've said that Im waiting for my brake calliper bolts amongst other thing to rot and drop off

Sound advice - however the bash plate on the Terano II is steel, as is the cross member the bolts go into so copper grease is the stuff to use.

There are specific anti sieze/corrosion compounds for use with other metal combinations but for steel/steel and steel/iron copper grease is the stuff to use.
