Hi, a mate of mine has just bought a 52 plate 3.0l Terrano . He wants to register it onto French no. plates, so the headlights will need changing, or do they?, a lot of modern cars now can be changed from rhd to lhd beam pattern by means of a "switch" around the headlights, does anybody know if this is possible on this model?
Thanks
Rick

Never heard of a switch before but then again I've never had to do that. As far as I'm aware the beam patern is formed by the reflectors inside the lamp and the lens, reflectors could be moved but I doubt a lens could be made for both versions. We have a member that lives in France so he may well be able to give better advice (sorry can't remember his name). I would of thought that you could fit plastic masks/beam benders and then find a source across there for a perminant solution via a dealer.

Just seen the name of the member in France, it's Captlimey. Try sending him a PM.

Its only the projector type headlamps that have the switch and they dont fit them to Terranos

you need to check with the french law to see if you need permenant changes to lights or if using a beam changing mask would be ok,
if anything like british law on motorbikes as long as the reflecting does not reflect the wrong way then its ok temp or not.
i came across this with a imported honda cbr i use to own and all i did was taped the deflection over with insulation tape and that got it through the mot

Would not be a case of changing the alignment of the beam by using the headlight adjusters.
The left one faces in to the left so screw it back so it's pulled to the right and same on the other side.
I can't see the Japs having different headlights.
Just a thought

good luck in registering a car in france its a complete night mare they check everything!!!
I had to register 10 new vans, My seatbelts had the wrong markings on them I had the wrong paperwork twice and you could only register vehicles on 1 or 2 days a month.
I hope its changed since as I have to do it again next year
