New T2 came minus steps, I like simple look but its bit high
for Mrs and kids.

Last T2 had fairly chunky steps which were tube along side then
rounded inwards and under sills to frame with anti slip in fill.

they did catch rocks but at worst only scratched so seemed
pretty tough. some steps look far more flimsy so would
avoid them this time round.

wondering if had proper rock sliders could they be reasonable
steps too. tbh not seen any pictures of sliders on a T2. think
holes for a hi lift be handy too.

ive recently removed the steps on my troll cus the steel frames have rotted through. So i am thinkin of removing the boards and getting some larger tubing to make new rock slider style steps if that makes sense. (fit boards to heavy duty tubing)

what i cant determine from the steps seen on ebay and 4x4 parts suppliers
is if t2 steps always mount to chassis, like my last one's did.

on the troll it looked like they mounted to the sills which i cant see being as
strong and would also be a concern for encouraging rot in the sills.

looked at sliders on ebay, naturally all for solihull products and they look
like fit to body, unless of course they tie in with the body mount outriggers.

anyone care to confirm this.

also do you think custom/home made sliders could be an insurance issue
versus steps supplied by a business that i presume would have some form
of certification, tuv??

I can't confirm if mounting points are the same as MkII but the facelift steps (which are flimsy aluminium things compared to the s/s tubes used on the MkII) defo mount to the chassis.....and I suspect its likely the same fixing points.

like it! will look at s/h and refurb

unless get better offer on sliders.

Just make sure they are the older MkII steps cos those facelift ones are relatively flimsy. :thumb2

I think its not that difficult from memory to separate and remove the actual ally step platform, leaving just the s/s tubes which you'd then need to put some decent anti-slip material on so people don't fall out of your truck! :augie

Side steps are gay
The plan we're working on is to cut out the typically rotten sills and weld in a nice bit of box section.
Proper strong then as all bolt on types are prone to bend andthen be a right pain in the arse to sort out again :thumbs
