Thanks for any help

Not sure what the running gear is on the Pathy, but were you on a hard surface when in 4 wheel drive as the T2 don't like being driven on a hard none slip surfaces in 4 wheel

If you were on tarmac that'll prob be the reason as your not to use 4WD on the road unless it's covered in snow etc as the don't have a diff:augie

What the shuddering is, is transmission wind up & costly things break if you keep using 4WD on tarmac:doh TBH there is no need for 4WD to be used on the road

Welcome to the club, by the way.
Got any photos of your truck

Ok - Thanks Guys - Lesson learned!!

:lol :clap

A few of us have seen this, luckily doesent sound bad in your case, the one that springs to mind is someone using 4wd on a motorway at 70mph, needless to say it went bang :( then it leaves you with thousands in repair bills.

Google transmission windup if you get a chance. Basically the wheels need to be able to spin at different speeds, when you engage 4wd on Tarmac tyre is no slip, hence the juddering (it was prob forcing the wheels to jump out) :thumb2

Thanks guys for the prompt responses. I used have a Disco3 which used to do all my thinking for me in exchange for holding my wallet ransom every few months or so.... really useful forum!

Don't be expecting the pathfinder to be any cheaper, modern day 4x4' are all expensive!! Interested to know what you think of the pathfinder after owning a D3? I have a D3 and would not swap it for anything other than a newer D4 :sly

What you really want is a Trol :sly

Welcome to the club bud :thumbs

Now I know why you thought you could use 4WD on the road, the disco 3 has perm 4WD & has a centre diff so the front & rear wheels can travel at different speeds which stops transmission wind up from happening but if you had switched on the centre diff lock on the disco it's 4WD set up would change to that of the Pathfinder & the disco would have also suffered from transmission wind up:thumbs

It'll still be cheaper to run & fix than a disco 3 as it won't break down nearly as much:lol My mate (some might remember Floyd off here) had a Navara D22 & never had any engine probs at all:D
