Had test today. Failed. Among a few other minor enough things tester said that bushes were gone in front shocks. He said I had to get new shocks. When I asked him if it was the bushes were gone or the shocks were gone he said that the bushes were part of the shocks and I'd have to change the shocks. I thought the bushes were the rubber fittings on the top and the bottom of the shock and not part of the shock itself. Anyone able to clarify this for me.

cant really help mate but i replaced all shocks a few months ago and they came with the bushes ready to fit. I would have thought that the bushes are available seperately

Yep bushes are available seperate. ask Teranus if he's got any spares?
Or have a trip to scrappy if you're not busy:thumbs

Thanks for replies. Is there any way of checking if the shocks themselves are ok. Don't want to change the whole lot if only the bushes are gone. Can't say I noticed any problem with the front shocks up to now. Test result sheet said there was a 30% imbalance on the suspension test and the visual defects section said problem item was Shock Absorber, description said Mounting and reason said worn on the offside front.

TBH though Dan, they aren't that expensive - £34 a side from Milners - and if the bushes are fekd the shocks can't be that far behind.....and you have to remove the damn things to change the bushes anyway, so labour is the same...

Personally I'd fit new ones and forget 'em....

Your'e probably right. As you mention it it could well be that shocks are in there since new, i.e. 10 years, for all I know.

Finally got around to fitting new shocks and getting car retested. Shocks did seem to be as good as gone. And ordered them from Milners. Cost me an extra £ 12 to get them shipped across the pond but still worked out about E 30.00 cheaper than I had been quoted here. Passed test (had to fix brakes as well--new front pads required) so thanks for all the advice.
