Shockers Recommendations

Hi All, I'm going to replace the front shocks on my 3.0 litre. I'm purely standard truck and don't really want to lift it. Has anyone got any recommendations for shockers and suppliers please.

I did some research a while back on shockers and if I was going to buy standard height shocks I would go for Monroe Adventure's, really good quality and not too expensive, I'd probably get them through ebay too. I have them on the front of mine at the mo, good ride, good handling, seem to handle off road ok :thumb2

I've just fitted KYB Gas-A-Just to our 52 plate Terrano 3.0 and i'm very impressed so far. Nice and sturdy. Amazing build quality too. Gas filled so no slush from the oil. Haven't done much mileage with them yet however. Took 2 of us (I'm 6ft8 and quite a strong guy and my father who's been a mechanical engineer his whole life so is no weak thing) to fit as they are good and firm to compress. Automatically rise back to the top when released.
Replaced the Monroe shockers which were on there which were very wallowey and offered little support.
To be fair to them they were quite a few years old though although having been in the engineering game a few years now Monroe don't have the reputation they once had in the 70s and 80s (like most companies these days unfortunately!)
I got both shockers for the front at £70 the pair online from a German company. Can't remember the name off hand but they do offer returns in the UK etc. Got them in in less than 48 hours too! Part no 554070 incase your interested.

I have Monroe Adventure on all four corners. Had them on for two years, been good on road and good (mildly) off-road. I'm long wheel base, no mods.

You don't say why you are changing the dampers are they leaking or are you doing it due to high mileage ?

I ask this as I replaced the rear dampers on my old r3mR as I figured out with age and at that time 80k miles it was worth doing whilst I was replacing some of the rear suspension bushes.

I had the new dampers fitted and was amazed at just how good the condition was of the old dampers. They appeared to be original as well. Wasted my money if truth be told as the ride was the same. They were Monroe Gas units.

That said if you are replacing them I am a fan of gas filled shockers and really there are a lot out there in the market place to choose from depending on your budget.

Due to my age I tend to stick with some of the older brands but there are lots of good ones out there. When my Jeep needs some replacements I am going for Koni Heavy Track made for 4x4's. Prices from the UK are stupid but on e-bay some German Retailers are offering good prices. They are also adjustable when you fit them to suit your requirements.

The plastic upper cover is loose and slides around. Same side the stainless leg part of it is either corroded or discoloured and rough. The bushes look tired too.

Since owning the truck I always felt it is quite wallowing too, over a bump I get a lot of front to back pitching. It's MOT time soon as well.

Sorry, got ahead of myself on my mobile this morning. Can happen when I'm rushing to reply and my fingers aren't working as quick as my mind.
Meant to have explained KYBs are mono-tube design so prevent airation you can get from standard twin-tube shocks which can affect the performance and cause slush.

I'll check my emails tomorrow for a company name.
All I can remember off the top of my head is they are based in Berlin, although I think somewhere I read they have a UK returns location based in Birmingham. Although it's late, and I've had a heck of a day finishing the terrano rebuild as well as a full day rebuilding Daimler v8s so I may be getting confused with somewhere else.

I ordered from www.bestpartstore.co.uk and got the pair for £71.25 delivered a few months back.
They had a big discount deal on at the time (38% i think) which made it a good deal with shipping and their 100 day returns option.
They regularly change the discount from day to day so keep an eye. Sometimes you can get really good deals!

Cheers for doing that mate, I've had look on ebay and the prices vary a lot, makes me think when prices are like that, is someone charging too much or is someone else selling cheap fake goods.I don't want to buy cheap rubbish, I've just fitted a cheap suspension arm to my van, flippin' 'eck, they should make prison inmates do them as punishment :lol
