Driving to work the other day and..

The front n/side wheel came away..

Sat with the n/side on the tarmic watching the wheel sod off up the road, lucky it didn't hit anyone or thing..

The wheel nut's holding the wheel spacer had come undone, the worst part was there was no warning anything was wrong..

Now need a new lower ball joint as there isn't alot of the nut left.
So if you have spacers on.. check your inner nut's..

that almost happened to me when i first got the car, except i heard this clunk clunk....checked the front wheels, nearly all the nuts where loose. As the guy i bought it off had claimed he had done the breaks, i figured he hadnt tightened them properly perhaps...scary!

When I had mine on I used the permanent thread lock stuff. Also, did you use the nuts that came with your spacers?
If so DONT they are proper poo:doh, get some proper nuts from your motor factors as they will take and hold the torque :thumbs

 did you get the wheel back??, i had that happen years ago, i had a old thames truck as a company motor, i had 2 new tyres fitted the precious afternoon, on my way to work the next morning,in traffic, a wheel came past me, i had a chuckle, then realised it was mine, they couldn't have tightened the nuts properly, bloody scary though. :augie

ps, never found the wheel and tyre, bounced through hedge and into a crop field, probably still there.:lol

Going to do that. :thumb2

what kinda spacers were they?
They bolt onto the stud's & have stud's to bolt the wheel onto.

Just remembered, are the studs on yours long enough to come all the way through the nut?
Mine weren't at first, so had to take the hubs off to put longer studs in:rolleyes:

Yes had a good run up the road watching it miss the parked car's, good job the roads only 20 mph..

A medic I was marshalling with had this happen to him in his maverick after a wheel change at a garage. Going down the motorway! Luckily he wasn't go fast.

Can't get over the fact the wheel didn't take the wing off with it.

we had one come off a trailer,we were all laughing until we realised and it hit a rover which used to belong to lads drivings ex wife he swore the car was haunting him lol!

All I kept saying was.. "PLEASE DON'T HIT THAT CAR.. OVER & OVER.." :doh

went out to a 16 ton tipper (loaded) years ago that had lost his rear twin 10,00 X 20 wheels (he was still trying to go up hill on the brake drum) one wheel was on the verge about 50 yards away the other had gone down into a wood, we followed its track fairly easily and it had come to rest near a pile of old rags, as we were struggling to lift this wheel and push it back up the hill the pile of rags moved and this old tramp asked what the f we were doing disturbing him, if only he realized how close he had come to be flattened, Rick

i had my two rear wheels come off at the same time!!!
no damage, and i managed to find most of the nuts as well!
adz was in the truck and was most helpful:augie:augie:augie

a good reason not to fit such boy racer nonsense children! :question

I think I've got some of his air horns in the garage:augie
Must get those stuck on the roof:lol

Don't they recommend that you don't grease your nuts

I think most of ue do to make sure we can take them off again, could this be the problem.

It was a long time ago, My Father was driving and we lost a trailer wheel, it came off hit a kerb and went over a fence without touching it.

I had the task of knocking on the door, as a kid, and asking "Can I have my wheel back ?" There it was in long grass, with no signs of how it got there.

We were over loaded at the time, but the wheel nuts were still in the metal hub cap. It only had 3 wheel studs and nuts, axle must have been off an old Citroen. The studs were totally stripped of threads, so this hadn't come loose as such.
