Shaky start with Santa Fe 2.7 petrol

Well the recently acquired Hyundai is in at local dealer to have routine cam belt and drive belt changed with appropriate tensioners and a water pump.

I know they will be looking for work but they say it has two oil leaks one being from the sump and the other being from the steering rack. We are talking a couple of drips a day on the driveway. Had to to up PAS reservoir with about an egg cup full of fluid over 3 weeks but it may not have been full when I bought the motor.

They want £200 to do the sump seal - its not a gasket as such but a liquid one!

They have quoted £1300 for a new rack the parts being around £460. I can live with the sump leak as its quite small but the rack does worry me a little.

I plan to put some Lucas rack seal in the fluid as it did work on a car of mine many years ago and gave me another 2 years out of a steering box seal. Not a great start !!

I'd get quotes for other garages & from parts suppliers before i paid that for a steering rack. if they try to tell you it'll make your guarantee null & void...it won't as long as you use a VAT registered garage:thumbs

as above, I seriously DOUBT that cost is realistic. I don't know much about Hyundais, but im fairly certain they don't generally cost THAT much to repair...?!

Steering rack fluid drip

As posted elsewhere cured leak with PAS stop leak stuff.

Now been totally drip free for a week.

Simular to nissans, rear brake cylinders for the Atoz are £12 each, fuel/oil filters are about £10 etc

Done 2k miles and no sign of leak .

Well now done almost 4k miles and power steering leak is still sorted and drive is now totally drip free as I got a mate at work to do the sump gasket last week.

Next job - to remove the spotted oil stains from my block pavers and remove all evidence of a leak - anyone know best oil stain remover for the job ??

I have some Gunk might try that when its dry !

find the cost of a rack for yourself and then google the 'book' labour time and work it out :thumb2

You could try the gunk, put some on & let it soak in & do it a couple of times then use a pressure on the finest jet setting or if you've got a karcher pressure washer use the dirt blaster nozzle:thumb2 prob won't remove the stain fully but should lighten it & once the sun's UV rays have hit it it'll slowly fade away or his has done for us when we had the LR & the Son spilt a littre of oil on our concrete drive:doh

I've never had block paving but I always thought you could just pull out a stained brick, turn it over and drop it back in again or does it not work like that?

no the theory is good but they have a top and a bottom and if you buy a new block or two the colour will be different, even if you had some left over you would have needed to store them subject to the same exposure conditions as the main drive or they will not be the same, and stick out like a sore thumb, Rick

We often encounter this problem at work, where we use a citrus based product called Powerscrub 22. It's supposed to be environmentally freindly etc, but it does seem to work.

I'm not sure where it comes from, but I am sure there are other suppliers of similar products.

If the stain is not too large.Try cement powder to soak up the excess,then jet wash off.

Try Bio washing powder sprinkled over the stain, it's supposed to kill off the oil.
