I need to get some shackles for recovery.... The strap is rated at 5 tonne, so looking at shackles rated the same, or a bit more.

Firstly, what is the significance of the "Blue Bolt", do I need it?

Next, the shape of the shackle, do I want "Bow" or "D" and apart from the obvious shape, what is the difference, and which would I want to use to attach a strap to a towing/recovery point?

A d shackle is better for a straight pull where a bow shackle is better for a offset pull dont know about the blue bolt thing

My rope strops are 10tonne ones, shakles i went for 15tonne didnt want a lump of metal broken / flying about

Shape colour no idea

Ahhhh.. OK that makes sense.... Thank You.

I keep finding people who list the "Blue Bolt" like it is a special feature, and I noticed 2 of the guys on the test had ones with Blue Bolts as well, looks a bit strange, shiny silver shackle, with a blue bolt going through it.

That was my thinking, would far rather the strap snapped than any shackle.

iirc the blue bolt is just a show of who made the shackle, cant remember off top of my head but i think they're sposed to be like the royalty of the shackles :lol

I see.... Cheers... So no need for blue bolts then... Now Now... keep it clean... :lol:lol

I think my shackles have blue bolts, does the colour signify load rating :nenau

Maybe it makes them more visible in the snow. :nenau

Or they match your blue nuts?

Just to let you know, I went for 8.5ton shackles with "Green Pins"... still not really sure of the significance of the colour, but it seems that some places that use shackles for lifting, will only use either blue or green pin, as it seems to be a statement of their build quality.

Only thing is, 8.5Ton shackles are bloody huge....I really had no idea just how big they would be... still I can use them as arm weights for exercising when not towing...:lol
