Does anyone know how?

I've got the gearbox on the floor and need to remove the transfer box and switch onto my new gearbox.

I've removed all the bolts that secure the two together as I have the new one as reference next to me!!!!

Is there a nack to separation because this one is stuck fast :nenau

They are mastic ed together, if I remember correctly they have pry lumps in 2 or 3 places to enable levering apart, just gentle constant pressure is all that is needed, Rick

incidentally are they both the same, by that I mean manual or auto, cos the transfer box is different between manual and auto, Rick

Thanks Rick, I checked the workshop manual but it was of little use really.

I spotted the white mastic you mention, I didn't spot any prying spots though or anywhere I'd like to hit it.

Also, now the box is on the floor, it's going to be trickier to separate it because of weight, how should I be supporting it and where? :nenau

Do not try and knock it apart it will only damage it, it needs gentle force, long time ago when I did mine but seem to remember refitting some bolts but about 5 to 10 mm from home then jacking on these with a pry bar, the drive shaft between the two will keep it lined up enough till is is a few inches apart, Rick

Put it on the stand you borrowed from me or is the troll lump on that?
Rick has confirmed my thoughts about the gasket.
