Hi guys, I’ve thinking about a second battery for the 3litre truck. Trouble is Nissan rather annoyingly stuck a washer bottle exactly where the second battery fits beautifully in my older truck behind passenger side headlamp. As I use the boot space it isn’t very practical to sit a battery in the boot.
Whilst on the last meet I was talking to DonSimon about this and he gave me an idea. Basically cutting a hole in the floor under the drivers seat and making a steel box to sit in the hole and fix a battery in there.

What’s people’s opinions on this, do you think it’s practical. Oh the truck isn’t lifted at all it’s totally standard.

I reckon if you don't have anything going lower than the chassis rail it will be fine, that way you could build a bash plate to protect it :thumb2

This was the conclusion when I last talked about it on here.and there would't be a problem if it sits proud of the floorpan either. You've seen mine and it hasn't killed me dead yet.

Hi Jim,

Would it be possible, easier and maybe safer :nenau to relocate the washer bottle. Would of thought that could be stashed anywhere within reason even if it means getting a different shape/size one off a different vehicle at the scrap yard.

I know when rooting around scrap yards in the past (I miss that) I have seen all sorts of shapes and sizes, some seem buried so deep in the engine all I ever saw was the long filler neck.

Thinking about it I would rather the battery safe in the engine bay, if I managed to knock the water bottle at least could repair that with good old gaffer tape and zip Ties

Forgive me though, i cant remember the bottle size or layout of the 3ltr engine bay so I may be talking rubbish :)

Hi Thomas, no worries mate and I’m only thinking about what to do at the moment so not even decided anything yet.
The washer bottle position was changed by nissan around 2001ish. They relocated it to the big space behind passenger side headlamp which used to be the ideal location for a battery. The old location was below the drivers side inner wing behind the headlamp with a filler neck sticking up into the engine bay near the main vehicle battery.
Can’t remember the washer pump setup on my 3 litre but the older type used to use one pump for front and rear washers with a controller reversing polarity of the power going to the pump. Starting to get complicated at this point I think.

Have you thought of fitting one of those li-on jump start batteries, small and light around the same price as a regular battery. May take a while to charge though
