I now have my roof lights and second battery fitted.

The roof lights were a bargain, I got the roof bar plus the 4 spotlights for £20. They were off a Pajero, so the roof fittings did not work. Taking a leaf out of R1cho's book, I used his idea of RivNutting the mountings from a Halfords Gutter mount rack to the car, and fixing the light bar to them.

I used 7 core trailer wire to run the wires up to a water proof connector in the roof, so I can remove the lights fairly easily when I do not want them.

I have a foot dip switch, with a second Dash switch giving me the options of having them on with Main Beam, off all together, and using the switch on the Dash, on permanently.

I fitted my second battery, this is primarily for running accessories off of, when we are away in the tin-tent, or doing our Ferret PR work, but I wanted to make sure it got to do work at other times, so the extra lights, and the permanent live rear boot sockets are wired to run off of it at the moment.

Bits needed for second battery

Battery tray
Battery
Durite 140amp split charge relay
Set of 4 meter high current jump leads
2 150amp inline fuses and holders
Distribution Box
Several crimp/solder on tags.

I got one of these battery trays off of ebay

Fitted it to the near side inner wing using Rivnuts and rubber washers

Using the Jump leads, as it was cheaper to buy a pair of them than get the cable on it's own, I ran from the vehicles battery to the first inline fuse holder. From here to the Durite Relay. The relay is voltage sensing, so no need for any control wires, just an earth.

From the Relay, the cable passes round the rear of the engine bay,

and then down to a gold plated "ICE" distribution box I picked up cheap at a boot fair, fixed to the bracket under the air filter. From the distribution box, it goes via a second 150amp inline fuse back into the second battery. The Distribution box has connections for 6 heavy current cables, which currently go to the 4 relays you see on the Nearside wing. 2 for the roof lights, (2 pairs), and a 3rd for the other pair of lights when I get them. The last relay is for the LED lights which will be mounted in the roof lights, and come on with the side lights (not yet fitted), similar to the lower spots.

The rear 12 boot sockets are currently wired via the fuses you can see on the drivers side of the bulk head, which are still wired to the main battery, as I have not swapped them over yet.

:lol:lol When it is lit up, it is a Christmas tree, once the top lights have their LED's in, I will take a dusk picture to show you..

Yes, it is a 1986 D reg Volvo 240 Est. My wife inherited it from her dad when he had a stroke, and could no longer drive. It needs a bit of work at the moment, so is SORN until I get it done, but the T2 is taking up an spare time at the moment.

Thanks..

POLISH, blimey that is shiny :lol you got too much time on your hands :lol
Way too clean  get some muck on it :naughty

Nice job, makes me jealous as I'd love second battery for mine. What's your insurance company said about the second battery?

How did you route your cables for the spotlights into the car?

I'll try and get a better picture at some point. It is a plug and socket in the middle of the roof, just above the rear view mirror. It is a fraction off centre, as it was a tight fit between the roof motor and other bits and pieces.

I got a 7 in waterproof plug and socket, and in order to get something that was not too large, it was one you had to solder the wires to. I soldered a long length of 7 core trailer wire to it, and used heatshrink tubing over the wires, then a large bit over the whole assembly, which I also filled with silicon before shrinking, to make sure it was "Very" water tight.

I then ran the cable behind the head lining, down the passenger side of the screen behind the plastic cover, and out into the bonnet through a grommet behind the heater motor.

well done, nice tidy job, I may look under my bonnet now to see if i have room for another battery - I will steal all your ideas of course :thumb2

Looking good, Just make sure that battery clamp does not come loose. I had a similar kit and it was crap.
