my daughter insists ( quite rightly i think ) that the grandchildren have " over the shoulder " seatbelts to fit their child seats to.... my problem is that the middle row of seats only has 2 over the shoulder belts , the centre one being a lap belt ....so it means me putting up the 3rd row of seats ( is this making sense ? )..... and by doing that i have no room for my wheelchair....... is it possible to fit a over the shoulder belt easily to the middle row of seats in place of the lap belt ? :nenau

och.

we put the biggest kid in the centre seat.

lap belt was fine on the kiddy seat we used.
then when on to booster seats kids couldn't hit there head on the cd box. even now its still to far away

hiya briggie,

im actually a rospa trained and certified car seat advisor which was part of my management training at halfords. any seat belts added to the car will A: cost loads to have installed B: will have to be safety checked by a vosa station.

depending on the child you may be able to use a booster seat for the oldest, heaviest and tallest child. a booster seat must be used for children upto 135cm. a center lap belt is not ideal but in conjunction with a decent seat, you should not have any issues.

if they are all still very young children then unfortunatley most child seats need the 3 point belts to secure them in a vehicle safely.

if you pm me the height and weight of the oldest child then i should be able to advise you as to your best course of action.

cheers, simon

3 grandchildren all under 8 ( youngest is 2 )

i just wondered if a 3 point seat belt could easily ( and cheaply lol ) to the middle seat in place of the lapbelt ?:nenau

or ... failing that , if i could easily ( and cheaply ) replace the rear seat with one that is either a 60/40 or a 50/50 ,instead of the complete thing ( does this make sense ? ):nenau

just had a idea ... would it be a a option to fit a towbar ..... and have a small trailer to fit my wheelchair and luggage etc in . thereby giving lots of room for grandkids and any future grandkids :lol

i'd have said no to this, unless you were prepared for some major costs, because for a start, where is the centre belt going to anchor? its tricky, i wonder how other families get on with this???
