Now speaking from experience as I did one the other day, a simple bolt took me about an hour as it was seized to the nut on the underside :doh

I dont have the tools or the skills to even dream of attempting this, let alone the possible dismantling to get to it. I suspected there was another earth next to it actually underneath the coolant bottle "frame" as I cannot reach it I cannot check  looked like a good one to start.

Once an earth starts to go bad, and you have damp or even splases of salt around, then electrolytic corrosion will take place and corrode the area even more.

When I first got my Mav... all those years ago...:doh having had rusty cars in the past, I blobbed waxoyl on every earth point, on both sides, even if it meant removing panels or liners etc

I guarantee that all the fixing screws on my Mav will come apart without shearing, and the surrounding area is rust free.

I suggest that when you do clean up the earths, that you use something like waxoyl on the crimps and the bolts etc.
Also be aware that professionally crimped connections can corrode and they too can fail. Look for bright blue/green crystals, which is a sign of copper oxide, which means that the copper in the wire is wasting away, and will eventually cause an open circuit. So you might need to replace earth straps too.

Years ago, a friend had a oroblem with bad earths, the Triumph 1300 was difficult and slow to turn over, so I had a look, and when he was cranking it, the throttle cable was glowing red hot, now considering that all this current was passing through the petrol carburettor he was lucky not to have a fire.
The engine to body earth just pulled out of the inner wing with very little force.
I reterminated the cable to a more solid earth and all was fine.

Now if Alex got to know Ryan, then Ryan might help him.
Ryan claimed to be an Auto Electrician, but following some of his questions it was clear he was lacking some knowledge about electricity.:doh
He started modding his truck... to the point of it not running ever again...:augie

A few possibly important points I have just remembered from a while back, perhaps completely unrelated.

1 - when my steering came off splines I had twisted the steering wheel (I believe)

2 - on occasion when driving i get the "headlights left on beep" for a second

3 - many many months ago when parked up the car did like a triple flash of indicators and locks :nenau it's actually done this twice whilst playing with a/c buttons ect.

If I can recall, at the time we suggested that you should disconnect the steering first, then centralise the wheel so the cable in the wheel doesn't tighten on one pasticular lock.
Which lock are you on at the time?
There might also be a broken wire, or one that is shorting to another.:doh

Warning...
Messing with the steering and not connecting it correctly can seriously damage your health, as well as others, so get any work done by a competant person.

No, its seems the steering operation is ok, turning the steering doesent seem to effect the running, just an audible lights on noise very uncommon (perhaps 3 times since incident)

Just reminded myself this morning and thought it might be related?

EDIT - sorry Rustic just re-read your post, when I lost steering I span the steering wheel several times so I was unsure of its "home" position, and not wanting an airbag in my face, i left it alone.
