Can anyone be more specific where the earths are on a terrano.

I'm looking for any earths or obvious wiring issues. I have been able to carry out a few continuity checks to some of the earths and also negative to the engine and body ect, all is very close if not 0 ohms.

I found one bolted to the floor above the drivers wheel. And I can see two bolted to the side of the engine there (near the coolant bottle)

Any other obvious ones to check?

As I was saying to rick and Ray yesterday when we moved the wiring out the way at the top near the I/C it seems to have worsened the problem but I'm not very good with wiring

the earth is normally under your feet :augie:lol

the opposite ends on the alloy manufold look clean but undo them and re-clean alloy and terminal ends.

Alex, I'd be checking out the big old multi plug things. Carefully undo them and check for obvious issues, then spray contact cleaner on them. Re connect firmly and try your readings again.
There are so many earths on the T2 you'll need a hell of a lot of them to be cut off before things get really dodgey. Don't ask me why :augie

oh dear that does sound dodgy, I did have a go at the plugs again yesterday and moving the loom to the plugs and small wire off no1 injector too. admittedly it was dark and freezing and i could not undo all the connectors but I did clean most of em.

I am suspecting perhaps a dodgy wire, this will prove to be a nightmare and more than likley out of my capability :(

I will persists with earth checks and blocks.

Anyone remember a few months back I had a good clean of all blocks and it cured my fault (for a while) Makes me wonder if i disturbed anything else... :nenau

Rick also put in a plate over the EGR valve too. But we tested it after that and it was misbehaving but not as bad as it is now.

Alex, I do remember a few months ago when you were having issues that you went back to using diesel and it cured your issues, why not try that again :nenau

this is what I also suggested.
eliminate one problem at a time.
I know its a time consuming process, but running it on derv for a week is hardly a true test.
first just look at what you know has been changed.

Had Sarah's car hooked up to the lappy today for 45 mins plus, did not drop out once, so think the power supply to your diagnostic socket is bad, most likely the earth point, but I do not know where that is, maybe Ray can point you in the right direction, Rick

I know there is an earth on the alternator bracket that go's to the N/S inner wing (black with yellow tracer) as i've just added another earth lead here:augie not sure where the the body to chassis one is yet or if there is an earth on the O/S of the engine. There are a couple of earth's under the dash drivers side on the A post prob for the fuse box etc

Thankyou rick that's very handy :thumb2

The only other thing I did when my problem went away was spray. Earth drivers footwell. Don't suppose there could be a ground there? :nenau

Thanks for all the help chappies.

Some weird symptoms to follow too... Started her cold today (obviously) went into heavy traffic and she was kangarooing really bad, once she warmed up it went away... :nenau no codes at this time.

Once it was warm I gunned it and got into about 45mph in 3rd gear, then click, power all of a sudden disappears like it's hit some sort of limiter. Then it would slowly increase power. I wonder if air is enough to be blowing on something loose pushing it into a bad position :nenau

The cold thing I don't know though, perhaps expansion and contraction laws ect

Or another theory... Perhaps I am reading too far into this :augie

I've got such a bad habit I want t open another thread :lol

As Sweety says earths near the fuse box near the diagnostic socket, a dropping out connection will play havoc with the ECU, so stop looking for anything else for now just concentrate on any earth bolts you can find, Rick

Yep noted :D

From experience should I be looking for something obviously loose or corroded or could it infact look perfect

I took one off yesterday, jesus that was a mistake, it's the one directly above the offside front tyre :doh

The bolt was seized onto the square shaped nut. Eventually I got it back together, the surface area was clean too, gave it a good spray of contact cleaner aswell. Never again I said to myself :lol

Sorry chaps, one more thing I would like to try and find is - are all earths linked together or infact could both those sensors be linked to say, several options

I e, limiting my search to say 3 or 4 earths as some will be irrelevant :nenau

I guess a wiring diagram would be needed?

Earth/ground is the same thing:doh if you think you have a bad earth remove all the earth straps clean them up & clean up (to shiny metal) the points they mount to on the body:thumbs

Sorry bad typing on my part, I was suggesting I had sprayed in that area along with cleaning blocks at the same time. Instantly it was cured (for a while)

It might pay to clean up every plug you can find with some sand paper then some contact cleaner, then clean every earth up with sand paper making sure the contact area on the body has been sanded down to shiny metal refit the earth lead & put some paint over it to stop any rust forming. A lot of slog but even if this didn't fix your problem your trucks electrical system will love you for it:thumbs & I would go back to using pure diesel for a few months as your probs this morning could have also been down to the veg going thick with the cold

It's got a mix of veg and diesel, but symptoms don't all marry up, it starts beautifully and purrs fine. Once you drive it's not happy. Earth stuff to start with me thinks.

Good night all :thumb2

That's because on tickover and low rev town driving you are not pulling as much fuel though.
Engine side of things looked pretty clean so thats why I suggested fuel lines, filter and tank swirl pot.
Not saying a bad earth might not be to blame but you are trying to do too much at once.
Eliminate one problem before you go looking for another or you could make things worse.

Yes true, I will just do earths, well try

We didn't look at swirl pot, but again symptoms are not right for a fuel blockage really. If you drove it, you'd see what I meant
