Sad day ! Think it's the end of the road for this one. Rust, holes and oil leaks appearing everywhere on this 05 plate. Chassis going at the rear drivers side near the fuel tank. Rear diff leaking oil, engine oil leak, front and rear arches, boot floor. Is it really worth saving or does it need scrapping ?

When my old 230TE was beyond economic repair.

The rear suspension (self-levelling hydraulic) on our old Merc collapsed back in 2008 to repair it was going to cost around £1000 and it really needed new front drive shafts (£600 each!) as the built in reluctor rings were corroded causing the ABS to trip in as well as the SBC fault light coming on above 50 mph.

As she only cost just under £1000 (ran her for 3 years) I decided to get rid - scrap yard offered me £30 if I would drive it there or nothing but they would collect.

I sold it for spares or repair for £150 having removed some bits and sold them for £260 (alloy wheels, spare fuel can, radio, handbooks etc) luckily I had a set of steel rims with just legal tryes so it could still be driven .

If you have the time selling parts seems to get you more money. The Merc was G23 SST as the bodywork was excellent it was going to be restored but no sign of it having been MoT tested.

Yeah breaking is an option or just sell for spares or repairs as you say. Was just hoping it may of been worth saving. But maybe it's just come to the end of the road.

I guess one factor to consider how much of those repairs you can do yourself and is the vehicle pretty good apart from these faults
