in though atleast can add one easily, then its just more clutter

On some trips we dont bother with tv at all, on others (rainy days in Scarborough spring to mind) its a godsend :thumb2

One of the best things we did in that direction was bin the dvd box, the freeview box and the old crt tv and get a 22" screen lcd with it all built in. Once we get the caravan aerial aligned its easy peasy and as you say no mass of wires.

I can even get it set up as fast as illy can do his satellite dish :augie

Even if you have to sell the children to raise the dosh, get yourself one

Make a stand out of a old garden rotary line and use that.did mine last year but use sky dish, decoder.Usually takes about 5/10 miins to set up.To stop rotating drill small hole in collar for self tapper.Drill numerous holes on centre spindle to adjust height.

The sky dish kits come with a wall mount, and a sucker type mount - to mount on any smooth surface. Commonly, people use the collapsible camping washing line tripods to save of space, or you can just take a ground spike and mount on there.

Regarding solar panels, make sure the panel you buy has a built in regulator. Not all of them do, but ensure it does - especially if roof mounting, as it will overcharge the battery, resulting in well - explosion eventually.

Average Leisure battery without charge up should last 3/5 days - 3 is the general rule. Never run a leisure battery flat.

Just spent a month in my smallest caravan with a battery I took off one of our Ford Ranger trucks as it no longer had the power to start the engine. It lasted the month easily with not mains at all!

We bought a portable 12 volt system from Aldi over a year back, for the boat.

It works even on the boat roof.

What I did to make it easy to set up was fit a spirit level to the dish, so that the height of the satelite was easy, then adjust the direction with the compass. much less than 3 minutes to set up. :clap

well half wishing had tookk it after all.

had a week on a farm site north of scarboro, no terrestial signal
well not at our pitch anyway, perhaps if had been further up the
field? that said higher up field some had dishes on tripods, possibly
slightly larger than the suitcase type. oh and there was mains
hook up too.

that said looking at alignments they were able to see over a tree
line that we being lower down wer next to so again suspect would
have needed to site dish long way from pitch. likely having upto
a 25 metre (non hi vis) cable trailing back to pitch wouldnt be accepted.

that said every other outfit broke all CC rules by having multiple
dogs off lead, with a field of lambs adjacent... so when in Rome?

anyway digress, Dad lent us Bush portable dvd player which little un
nearly wore out with dvds, neat could also then run it thru van's
16" lcd.

brain wave : will take our sky plus box full of stuff not got round
to watching at home yet and play back in 'van subject to hook up.

i wish, everything in ours is 12v, sinks and loo flush from aqua roll, ignitions
of fridge, cooker, heater and water heater.

ok could use match on cooker, heater ditch for solid fuel. pumping water......
seriously be nice if some of heater and water were combined, so much heat
is made by fire sure could be doing water too. sort of like a back boiler in a house.


see you were looking for an ignitor, these electronics are great til they fail or theres
no power for them. think prefered on old fridge the pushing button type.

that sounds like a plan! I have one of those little portable DVD thingies to keep the kids amused they are very good :thumb2

We always state 3-5 days for battery health, assuming all powered units will be used. This ensures the battery does not fall below 60%, after which damage occurs if regularly dropping this low. Just saves me buying batteries every year!

cheers, got to that thought as saw could get a dvd player even mains for house.
then what about a tv recorder, could use away too, hang on got one at home
full of stuff never seem to get round to watching. easy enough to unplug at home
just get spare set of cable to use in 'van with it. power and scart.

also theres pc hard drives that output by av plugs media drives but would need
to fill it first from pc'ized stuff.

with sky plus with me may even dig out spare house dish bough way back for
vanning, only needed a tripod but at time dismissed due to set up issues and
storage in a little caravan. reckon nif can sort good supply of 12v for battery
charging could have a solution regardless of hookup availability.

We've just treated ourselves to a 78cm dish on a tripod (mainly looking ahead to euro use)
Dont know if its better quality or the size of it but whilst its twice the size of the suitcase one it works a million times better :thumb2:thumb2

I bought one last year, has a sucker base not brilliant in a strong wind though, but also a wall mount bracket which would also clamp to a pole if you have a couple of "U" bolts.
You could even mount it ao a piece of ply, weight it down saves having to buy a tripod.

Receiver is 240 volts or 12 volts from the car/ caravan. Not HD though.
Cable, connectors included all in a nice plastic box, where I would take a picture on how it all fits before you take it out of the box, unless you are a contender for the Krypton factor.


Mine had twin scart, phono connectors for AVI out, and also came with a compass and satelite finder, not sure this one does, so check it out.

I set it up at home first next to an open window, it was so easy I went on to buy a full HD version for the house with free view channels.
