yup , sally has been norty , refusing to start on lots of occasions today , its the starter motor , bluddie horrible noise when it spins and doesnt fire the engine , is the mistral starter motor the same as the terrano ? ( and is it cheap ? :naughty )

woah woah woah.....that CANT be right Pete. has to be same starter as the MK1 terrano, and so it should be less than £100.

Make Hitachi

Max cranking amps 230-283
Cant find the Mistral details

i need to be absolutely certain before spending a lot of money , id prefer a new one though

If you can find the engine code I'll look if its the same as the Tranno but I would of thought so Sorry I can't find the Mistral on my autodata disc

I guess only way to know for certain is to remove OSF wheel and look behind the plastic panel see what it say's. I bought mine from Andrew Page's in Huddersfield. It was a Bosch Recon that cost a more than those off ebay but I wanted it to be local and have a reasonable backup if anything went wrong.

Are you sure its the starter motor at fault ?

It sounds more like the solenoid in the pre-engagement mechanism to me ?

Unfortunately the drive plate that we fitted was from a London Taxi and I guess the reason it was changed was the ring gear was a bit worn on the four normal stopping places, but it was not that bad, upon reflection we should have re drilled the crankshaft holes to present good gear to the starter but it did not seem justified at the time, I think the starter is spinning before full engagement, the starter itself is fine, it just wants adjusting to engage further before before making electrical contact, I can do it but too far away, Rick
