hi all,
hope your having a good new year so far.
it was both a very sad & happy day today.just sold my 98 tdi mav,but took in exchange a 2005 3.0 t2 sve, with 25,500 miles on the clock.i'm over the moon with it.
is there anything to be careful of with the engine,as its an unknown quantity to me at the moment? or engine aside,is there anything else to watch on it?
first impression are that it was a bit back end twitchy in the snow !!she's running on goodyear wranglers if thats anything to with it?
many thanks...............................richie

Hi Richie

Search for my post entitled 'Advice needed on 3ltr T2s'. I received some useful response when I asked about 3ltrs as I'm looking for one. Basically there can be a problem with the oil pressure switches sticking, there's two of them. Apart from that it's the well tried Patrol engine and pretty reliable as well as being more powerful and economical
.
I'm not too clear what you mean when you say 'took in exchange a 2005 3.0 t2 sve' when selling you '98 Mav? Sounds like a good deal to me! If you find anyone who wants my '96 2.7 T2 to swap for a '05 3ltr let me know!

twitchy at the bacl check oil lever and type in the back diff. GOT to s an LSD one..

carefull not to grin to much as you pass people stuck in the snow and ice..

Hi,
I bought a 2002 3.0 SVE Auto in November last year with 101,000 miles on it.
The engine is also fitted to the Patrol so you will find additional info on their forums too. The unit fitted to the Terrano post dates the problems seen on the Patrols, so should soldier on well.
Do pay attention to the engine oil spec's.
I've only owned it a short time short while but seems to perform well.
Question: I believe that the 3.0 Terranos were not fitted with free wheel auto hubs as standard, mine isn't. is yours?
There are few schools of thought on this
The improved fuel efficiency of the 3.0 negated the need to save fuel.
My view leans toward; the increased torque & power from this engine would have a much greater potential to damage the auto hubs, especially in clumsy hands.

sad & happy 2

hi cl,
many thanks for that,i'm sure that'll prove useful.i must admit i'd read a couple of reveiws about the oil pressure switches,& was slightly alarmed about one fella who'd had a pretty poor response from his nissan dealer.the availability of these switches are meant to be non-existent!!hope i never need one!!(or two).
also it was a good deal, right up to the point where i handed over the 6 grand, then it became one of those bitter sweet moments, specially when my mrs found out how much i'd really paid for it!!
i'll keep my eyes out for you & ask around for yours. nice fish, by the way.dolphin fish?,if i'm not mistaken?

hi zippy,i'll have a check on that oil type when she has her first service.i'll go through the lot.my maverick was as sturdy as a rock in the snow, but that had all terrains on,which points me to the goodyears on this one.

could be tryes,

nice new set of at or muds...

hi ray,not yet sure of the hubs, but i know they release very quickly when coming back to 2 wheel drive.is the egine oil full or part synthetic?i'll keep an eye on the fuel consumption, but early thoughts are its looking pretty good compared to my old mav.i know on tickover revs shes doing 30 mph in fith gear with no real labour judder to the engine.i know what yor saying about the increased torque to the hubs, the difference from the 2.7 is staggering.hopefully with 25,500 on the clock it'll be a very long time before i need any parts!!

Hi Richie

Thanks for the clarification on the deal! I'm looking to pay that sort of dosh for one in the UK as they're twice that price over here! If you find a low mileage T2 or maybe a Patrol, I'll be searching seriously in the Spring.

Re tyres I'm running on Toyo Open Country ATs - just did 150 miles in the snow - no probs - good price from Camskills.

Re the fish you're absolutely right, it was a bull Dolphin Dorado (known locally as Mahi-Mahi), delicious seared in a hot pan with salad and a lemon dressing.
