So I got my 51 plate lwb, and its rot free for the most part. only bit ive found is this:

What would you guys do with that ?

Thinking sand it off with my dual action sander to shiny metal, then treat with rust preventative, then mask it and spray a silver paint back on it ?

Same place as mine but u got better looking side steps then me lets have some more pics of ur whole car sorry zippy got there 1st I think.

wouldn't be surprised if the sills have been replaced already, have you stabbed it with something sharp to see if it's just surface rust or a little deeper?

that black bit is where i stabbed it with a key, it is solid, it is just bubbling there.

How much are sills to get done then ? and who does them in the midlands or surrounding counties ?

I will have a further investigation though.

its hard to tell with these, could be rusting inside-out, as thats where the drains...er...drain!

wtf. guys its a 10 year old car, if thats all the rust you can see, then i think you did well. just clean it back to bare metal where rusty and re paint .

geeeeeeez:nenau

Well yeah lol, I paid 2.2k for it, love the silver colour and it pulls like a train, I'm happy as larry with my purchase TBH. Had some cool tail slidey fun round some muddy country lanes earlier, took me back to my rwd days of e30 bmws and ford capris, tbh for a big bus it handles pretty bloody well :D had a cracking 30mph water splash through a small ford as well.

What can I say, I'm smitten lads :)

will do as soon as I get some taken, only took one of the rust so far :D

I don't believe it , it's not possible, there will be rust, you just haven't fallen through it yet :lol
I can assure you it's quietly rotting away now inside the sills and round the bulkhead and the bottom rear quarters , fact
Enjoy :sly

Fix the surface rust and pump some waxoil inside the sills. Clean off the rear arches where the seatbelt mounting is and treat then seal her up. Inside the front arches, clean treat and seal job done.

thankfully i dont have a sun roof , and im just going to drill a hole in my cill big enough to sqirt a fairy liquid bottle in and just shove a litre of old engine oil in the cill . let the rust soak that up

It's not just the sunroof that drains into the sills.
All the inner surfaces drain there, so condensation, window drains etc all get there
When we did my rock sliders a few weeks back I took out the roof drains pipes. The next day I had to drill new holes in the rock sliders to let the water out

isnt there some stuff called kill rust or cure rust ..... summat like that , that you sorta paint on ?:nenau

Are rear arch liners a pain to get off ?

Can u clean up rust to shiny metal and just paint waxoyl on it or should u prime it with something first ?

Noticed a patch inside my rear arch that I will attend to shortly.

If I waxoyl well can I leave rear arch liners off, or will the spray from the roads and pressure washers clean the waxoyl off over time ?

Sooo ... What to do with the rust patch on my o/s/r sill and inside rear wing ? Flap wheel or dual action sander ?

Then prime with red oxide ? Or fibreglass ? Or just wax oil ??
