OK then I have looked at fault codes and it has bought up 18,95 and 96.

Not sure what 95 and 96 are but number 18 is fuel quantity adjuster/position sensor.

Any one know if there is a sensor that comes off the car that maybe causing this or is it part of the fuel pump thats giving way?

I`d agree with paul on this it sounds like the accelerator position sensor. I could have saved my self the price of a maf had I know about this. It should take you no more than half an hour to take it off and give it a clean or just spray it in position. It`s worth a try. There`s a few threads on here about it

I think I have one of a car I broke thats a boasch although that was dead with fuel pump issues so prob best not to try or trust and just give mine a whirl first.

What would you suggest I use to clean it.?

wd 40 make sure you do the micro switch, some body else used a washing up liquid soloution. dont think it matters you just need to get it moving smoothly

Come up the unit and whip the one off mine and try it cuz we know its ok. :thumb2

Yeah can do if thats OK. Yours should be good cus if they microswitch was to stick on yours it would have stuck wide open as that how it spent the last year

Best way only gave up because it didnt like its yearly clean, or maybe it was because it found out i was thinking of getting rid of tailer and getting a truck so would only get a trip to asda once a wk instead of dragging its self inside out.
:lol

you would have had to attach a hitch to the towball just to con it into thinking it was tugging stuff about

OK I been reading a previous post where water and shit fuel were mentioned.

Now here is my true scenario.

DEC 6th 08. car went for MOT just after I had got it and it had been run on RED by the previous owner. Speedo reading.128306

today the speedo reads 129492 so I aint been far and in fact it very rarely moves during the week at all.

Since I have had it it has been on veg oil except prob the first couple of tranks full.

Is Crap fuel a probable cause????

I cant see the red being a problem as we are running v8 v6 straight 6 merc engines on them and the injectors pumps etc are the same as the merc road lorrys and we dont get and trouble from them. Red is white diesel with a die in it so it can be seen as tax free. veg oil im not sure as your astra van seems to be liking it.

Scott couple of things...firstly, based on the odd hiccup when it starts I tend to stick at 50/50 with zero problems...there are peeps running happily much higher, but the thing about vegoil is it magnifies the effect of any pre-existing problem. So I'd be tempted to run some decent diesel through it (BP or similar as opposed to supermarket) and see how it goes.

Secondly, where you getting your vegoil from? If its SVO, i.e. unused, then it ought to be OK, but if its been used then it will have all sorts of shite in it that can make your engine misbehave (animal fat, water and other contaminants)...

Ok well have now worked out that when the car is playing up if you switch the ignition off and immediately re start the car the engine will Rev up as normal???????

COULD THIS BE POINTING TO A MORE ELECTRICAL FAULT????

Also the car has sprung a leak possibly from the return pipes again would this play a big part in the problem?

Yes I think so, the codes you retrieved point to the needle lift sensor in number one injector the speed sensor and the fuel quantity adjuster (injection pump), I would check all earthing points and also as stated the throttle potentiometer is a possibility.

Had the car on a scanner while driving and itshowed the throttle sensor was opening and shutting with the pedal. Have also fitted pedal of jimmy92's old car to it now. will check all the earth etc later
