Can anybody suggest anything that may be causing this problem.

running well then out of nowhere all the power goes and the car wont rev above 2500rpm ish!
but then all few minutes later all the problems seem to go.

Have tried the obvious maf sensor and bought a new bosch one for it to ensure its not a cacka one. The problem is still there with the new sensor.

Any ideas are welcome as if I cant get somewhere today with it then its pictures and e-bay here we come

Sounds like a fuel blockage to me.

After a while a vacume builds up and can't get enough fuel.

Leave it for a bit vacume disperses and it can them get fuel through.

Had a similar problem on my van a while back, turned out to be the fuel pick up pipe blocked, blew it back with an airline, bled it all up and off we go, never had problem reoccur.

Check the priming pump, if thers a vacume it will pull down to the compressed position.

ok will do just checking for a banjo filter at min then will get it running and see what it does

well have cleaned filter in banjo, it has new fuel filter and MAF sensor. and when the cars playing up the primer is in the same position as when the cars running well. not sure what to try next

EGR - just squeeze the rubber pipe closed with some molegrips or similar (pad the the jawas to prevent damage to the pipe) - you can at least rule the EGR system out or not that way.

ok mate will try that next but would you suggest me blocking the EGR off anyway as the problem only occurs once the cars been drove a little while. is there any side effects of blocking the valve off?

is the valve in the same place on the newer engines as the pics in the download section seem to be the older setup?

I might be wrong but just asking.

EGR is a con by manufacturers to get through euro emissions etc. In the real world they run cleaner and more mpg etc without it.

TBH I've not looked at mone yet -its on the list of things to do. Its not on all of em either. You can't really miss it. SOmewhere there will be a 1/2" daia metal pipe coming off the exhaust, this will eventually lead to a rubber one, thats the one to try blockking off to start with.

No sign off the pipe nor the solenoid as seen in the pics. proper gutted cus actally like this car and it looks like Mrs Scott will get her way and it will be gone.

Scot face the facts your choice went out the window when you were stud in the church with your bling on. :thumbs

Dont tell her i said so:lol

Oh yeah great stuff you was meant to be a mate but then introduced me to your sister and stitched me up.

have you done the fault code thing from the downloads:nenau
it sounds just like what happened to my tdi.
mine turned out to be a knackered injector pump.
could just be a sensor.have you put veg oil in it.i started to get problems after using a 50/50 mix.
it would run fine then it would die and i would get the mil light come on.
if i turned it off and left it for 10 mins or so it would fire up and run o.k for a few days before it did it again.
good luck mate as mine worked to expensive to repair so it joined all the dead ones in the sky:(

it has been on veg oil but is now on straight diesel.

I ran it right down to get as much out as poss before putting diesel in it.

Not got MIL light on at minute. Will there still be any codes to read without light on?

Had about the same problem abit back, turned out to be the micro switch on the accelerator pedal sticking, give it a quick spary of WD40 been ok since.

By the way the codes stay till you delete them.:thumb2 ours showed the accelerator pedal sensor.

ok mate will give it a go.

Will the codes still be there although the light is not on.?

any fault codes will be stored until you re set it.if the light hasn't come on then i dont think it will have registered a fault:nenaucould be wrong(usaually am:lol:lol:lol)

Well I am going to give it a life line and its going in on monday ish to be plugged in to see what the live data is doing. the fella thats doing it says his diag machine uses a feeze frame that will record what happened when the engine started playing up so all he has to do then is work out which part is causing the fault.

good luck with it mate:thumb2
i hope its just something simple like a sensor or bad wire.
