Hello all,

I know running boards aren't the flavour of the day here (I've read the back posts) but any advice on replacing the mounts on a pair of these? The mounts' tubing look like something from a Victorian pier and got a dishonourable mention on the last MOT. Since then, my boy has informed me that the step is bouncy. On the pics you can see why. Looks like repairs at the running board end will also be required.

Is it the mounting bracket that is rotten or has it simply parted company with the step? They all part company with the step. Remove the old bolts and then drill through the step and fit new bolts.

I have not got that type, so only guessing, but I would say the mount to the chassis is goosed, Rick

Check out Banshee's grandad thread. Same problem sorted:thumbs

That said the older type that Rick is more likely to have is by far the strongest. The wifes old truck had the older type and I'm pretty sure it took a hell of a lot of the impact.

Maybe a chance to upgrade to far stronger steps.

This is how they look now, Granddad was impressed :thumb2

Yes I got a couple of sets if anybody interested, Rick

Is that the type with the nice stainless steel tube that sort of looks like a rock slider, and a thin infill plate of aluminium, Rick.

I would be interested in a set of those, as Suz's car has the same ones as pictured above, and the bottom of the tubes of the mount between the step and the chassis has rotted away on all her mounts, only a matter of time before they snap.

Thanks all. Food for thought. The mounts are rotted both ends. Can you buy mounts anywhere? It's just a bit of bent tube I guess but I doubt I have the time/patience/tools/skills etc to make my own.

Will get under the old girl and remove them so I can have a proper butchers.

Remember when you try to undo the bolts, slow and easy... spray some releasing agent (WD40 or some such) around the head of the bolts several times over a few days before you start. Then undo half a turn, spray some more, and do up, undo a turn, spray and do up, keep doing this until you get them out. If you shear them off in the holes trying to drill them out will be a nightmare.
