My other car is a sweet little T plate Rover 200 1.4 twin cam, I use this for daily commuting as its way cheaper to run than the Maverick.
Yesterday with temperature hardling climbing above -5°C the heater went cold, the engine stuttered and refused to idle, in the mirror I noticed the plume of white vapour from the exhaust covering the carriageway confirming that true to form the infamous Rover K engine has blown the head gasket.
The dilemma is it only cost me £400, do I pay the same again to have it repaired or just scrap it?

Put it out of its misery :lol

with the after market head gaskets and bolts available they can be fixed and will last for years! :thumb2

are you sure the block wasn't frozen, ie have you checked the anti freeze.

if the block is cracked....? scrap it.

if the head is cracked you could probably get another engine for it....depends if you want to do all the work same thing happened on our rover 100 1.1 that was a K series

I had a 1.4 just like yours, and I repaired the head gasket, which failed again after 20k miles. It was a bit of a fiddle of a job to do and cost around £200.00 (I think).

The engine, in my opinion, was a great little unit, producing around a 100bhp, but ultimately marred by this inherent weakness.

It's a tough call, but the only way to find out is to strip it down, evaluate the damage and see if is worth it.

Made the decision, too cold to start spannering so I've cashed in the tax, cancelled the insurance and scrapped the car.
In this weather I'll use Mav, when it's warmer I have the motorbike.
