hi guys, is it me or has roundabout junctions just become a guess & go for it for most drivers these days... 3 times this week ive approached a roundabout aiming to turn right so i enter the roundabout on the inside lane after travelling past 2 junctions im begining to pull out to exit my junction wow:bow there,s a car at side of you travelled all the way round the bloody outside lane:doh they then look at you as if your drivings gone mad:bow

That depends on if the lanes are marked straight on and right for example.
If there are two unmarked lanes in then you can go round the outer lane and it's up to you in the "inner"(the one nearer the island) to check your left shoulder etc before changing from your lane. That's asuming there's only one lane out of the roundabout. It's still bad form in my book but not illegal.
I often go up the rt lane to turn left at a blocked up roundabout , by going rt round the thing , as it's quicker than queing up in the lh lane :D
Keep your eyes peeled boyo

yeah know what ya mean about lanes marked that should be self explanatory! ...too make matters worse now most of our roundabouts have been fitted with lights for rush hr period :doh so when on green there,s now a mad rush to all jump into correct lane last minute :bow...it used to be like this at the school gates many years back but without the claims:lol

With some drivers, their logic is, stay on the inside lane, eventually your lane will come into view and you don't have to cross any lanes.

They should be taken off the road...:thumb2

What about drivers on the inside lane, going straight across, indicate right then indicate left when their lane comes into view..... IDIOTS,

WHAT IS ALL THAT ABOUT ?????:doh :doh

I always give them a short blast of the horn, if I am level with them.....
Highway code: ..... Let other Motorists Know you are there, then they start blaring their horn with hand jestures..... Total **nkers (Plonkers).

In the event of a collision, the insurance company always ask, what signals did you use that could have prevented the accident......

Hey so my fault now :nenau:nenau:nenau

I always have my thumb hovering over the horn......:naughty

yup, there are some total cocks. I am open minded, I understand youre going to catch someone on an off day, but I too have noticed a massive increase in the number of people not adhering to road rule. Too many folk just dont bother these days. On my way home today, noted a small accident, but was clear what had happened. Junction merges with busy 50 MPH road with a blind hill to the left.....bang. There is PLENTY of time at that junction if there is a car oncoming from the blind spot, but people dont wait, they just go!

Sadly it's not going to get any better. The general standard of driving has definitely gone downhill in the 20 odd years i've been driving.
On the way home tonight there was a big accident at a major junction on the Ring road near the M1, looks like someone just changed lanes without indicating and side swiped one car before T boning another.
Motoring is no fun any more....its A battleground out there.

Has the standard of driving really gone down though? I've been driving for almost 17 years now, and grew up in a city. Driving was appalling then and seems much the same now. The only difference is visibility is so poor in modern cars that you really do have to watch out for people not seeing you (love the visibility in the Maverick I must admit - HUGE windows!).

Motoring is still a lot of fun if you move to somewhere like Wales...

yep, also more cars on the road more likely to see crap drivers?

Anyway I am glad to live from the stress of cities.

Roundabout Rule

Good rule of thumb is the 12'oclock rule.If you are going to exit the roundabout past the 12'oclock point opposite entry stay on the inside until appropriate to signal, move over and exit. That conforms to the highway code and is easy to remember.Trouble is you never know who is going to abide by the rule! There is a particular roundabout nearby which is always a nightmare.Just today I was in the que and watched each driver in turn take a different route to the same exit.No win situation.:nenau

If anybody knows Burnley here, they might be familiar with Gannow top roundabouts. Entry and exit from the m65 and numerous other roads. In their wisdom, the highways folk have painted spiral markings on these so all rules/ laws about lanes are now obsolete. The way to navigate these is very simple, see a gap and go for it, if you don`t, somebody else will.

Yep... I call it Assertive driving, often seen by the wife to be aggressive driving..:doh

They will never understand.

What about the guy who approaches a roundabout turns left without indicating.....:doh:doh:doh An opportunity missed by the driver waiting to pull out.

In fact, the police can book a driver for not showing consideration for other road users .... Yea right....
