Just a quick general question...

What racks / baskets have people mounted to their cross bars ?

Cosmic, did you make your own, because it looks suspiciously like painted galvanised cable tray ?

Lee.

Mines pretty boring, just Thule kit that I've had for donkey's years from previous cars. I've got a standard roof rack and load stops that fit to the bars. The load stops have been real handy for holding things steady, carried loads of stuff. Got one of those cheap roof boxes from Halfords but it was a waste of money as I've only used it 3 times. Roof boxes are horrible to store and too high on our motors, another one of those ideas that seemed good at the time.

Hello Cosmic, I thought that it look familiar !

Looks cracking though, has a real "Tomb Raider-esque" look about the truck. The rack also gives you the ideal mounting points for lamps, aerials etc. :thumbs

Did you use "L" brackets for the corners and floor sections, and then "U" clamps to fit to the cross bars ?

Hi Lee I got Cosmic's off cut to make mine & have to say it nice & strong:thumb2 Mine's more open at the front & with a removable top bar at the rear so I can carry larger loads if needed:D

Mine is a gutter mount rack made by Paddy Hopkirk.
I removed the gutter mounts and zip tied the rack to the original bars and then drilled through both to bolt them together.
Glad I did as we've needed the rack on more than 1 occassion.

Mines an alloy Thule one, bought off ebay it was being sold as a Mitsi Shogun rack but that was just the bars (sold them on) - I just kept watching ebay till one came up at the right price (£40 IIRC).
