Roof Rack...

Have been keeping my eye on Eblag for roof bars or a roof rack to allow fitment of some high level lights. Won the rack below for £41.00. The guy had taken it off his girlfriends Mazda Bongo and is probably as big as is sensible. I fitted it with some UniStrut, some spare clamps off my works Transit and nuts, bolts, washers etc. Grand total about £59.00. I'm well chuffed ! The only arse is that I had just bought a mag mount for my new cb aerial for the middle of the roof ! :doh

I took mine in the works multi storey for the first time today, I nearly cacked my pants

It was a bigger adrenalin rush than Alton Towers I can tell ya. I could have sworn I was going to end up with a convertable without the convert option! :lol Having been used to driving a little Puegeot 306 in there, I'm sure you can imagine what I mean..

The rack is not too heavy, as it is aluminium. The Maverick roof bars have a 75 kg sticker on them, and the rack has a 50 kg sticker on it. I won't be carrying anything heavy with it, just light / bulky items on holiday. I'm toying with the idea of using it to carry the kids bikes instead of using the rear bike rack, much simpler for the run down to France.

regarding your mag mount, can you pop rivet a plate on the rack so you can still use it? :nenau

Tezzer, I think that is possible, but I'm not sure how big the plate will have to be to provide a decent ground plain ? Was thinking of just getting a rack mount bracket.

Lacroupade, we're off to a place called Faye d'Anjou, never been there before. Normally go to a Gite in Trevenec, near Carhaix. Am looking forward to going on Brittany Ferries new ship, "Amorique". That's the beauty of living in Plymouth, it only takes 10 mins to get to the ferry port.
