'lo,

The famaily had half a day canoeing and were quite taken by it. We could buy a second hand canadian canoe quite reasonably. The canoe weighs about 90Kg but I know the Terrano roof rax says max 50Kg.

Any advice or is this a none starter. The bars between the rails look quite weedy so I'd use some timber across the rails for a start. Sadly, the max 50Kg sticker appears on the rail.

Yep 50 kg for a reason, it is not just the point load, you put 50 kg on your roof without restraint then corner hard or brake hard to discover the force necessary to restrain it by hand, nuf said, Rick

Point taken.

So anyone carrying canoes on their roof racks? Kayaks are pretty light I guess. Anything Canadian style less than 50 kilos?

The roof rails are probably more than up to the job, I'd say they are good for a few hundred KG. The weak point in my opinion is the roof itself.

There's not much strengthening to the roof itself when you pull the headlining out and have a look :nenau

This is what's put me off a roof top tent on my Terrano. As much as I enjoy kipping in my truck on my DIY fold out bed away from the elements, there's something special about sleeping outside in a tent or such that really does seem to reset my body clock and make me feel refreshed

If only they made a tent that doesn't need to go on a roof :lol

The roof rails are more than up to a roof tent as the 50 kg isn't the static load but the dynamic carrying weight.

correct me if i'm wrong but i thought the roof it self was 100kg static load rated.
Judging by the roof structure i would not want to be static loading it close to its max, the dynamic force when under emergency breaking etc will be way more than that i would imagine.
A 90kg canoe is a bit of beast, no lighter options?

Sorry for taking so long to reply. Used to get notifications on my phone via Tapatalk but forgot I no longer had the app. :doh

The canoe would be suitable for 3 adults. It's certainly well built. It's basically an ex- hire.

I did see some acro props on Ebay which werre well priced but they were too short for my intended use. Perhaps I could use them inside the truck to bolster the roof. :lol
