Right then ?
Found a terrano SE with roof bars and there Standard nissan How the hell do they come off. Am i right in saying you take out the little black grommet And get a allen key in there or sum ut Undone the 3 allen keys you can see Come on let me no guy/s Ta

are you talking about roof rails, that run from front to back?

if so i believe you are right, a ball headed alan key, after removing a rectangular rubber grommet from the inside of each end.

but - if you do -you will be left with holes in your roof!

arrrrrrrrr

Thanks plank What it is Is i have found a Se with the bars you have said about and will be fitting them to my sport as they do not come fitted with any Type of thing if you get where i am coming from :lol

I see :doh

yes they come off as you said, but you may need to remove the headlining to get at the back of some of the bolts.

I am in the process of fitting some to my swb (it has no sunroof) I have found the roof is a bit flimsy for them and wondered if there were extra strengtheners in T2's fitted with a sunroof. I do have a plan to re-enforce the area, I just haven't got around to it yet.

If you remove the grab handle and the sun visor, then pull of the top bit of the door seal rubber you can drop the headlining enough to have a look underneath, might be worth doing this on the donor car and your own to compare how they will fit :thumbs

Ta

Seen on here somewhere its been done I think i will need some fancy thread things to put in the roof when i re fit Will av mooch on here in a bit see if i can find it :thumbs

Yes it has been done with 'nutserts' but having investigated i wouldn't put them on mine like that  and once you've drilled holes in your roof there is no going back :thumb2

o i

Must of been reading that While you were sending it But ta anyway Will have to find a little more out about sunroof and no sunroof They may be a little stronger with a s roof Scrap yard here i come But this time with ball allen keys
GOT TO BE RIGHT :thumbs

Don't forget to have a look under the head lining of the one with factory fitted rails :thumb2

planks rite! dont nut sert if you actually intend using the bars to carry a load! i bought some without the support brackets and was a pain to make some up! so worth dropping the roof lining of the donor vehicle and seeing whats there! if its a sunroof model it may be something you cannot remove! but worth a look!!!

o i

Thanks 4 that will have a good mooch Head lining out an everything Its a SE so 99% sure its got sunroof just got my allen keys 2 day with the little bobbles on the end So i think :thumb2 Got to be right :clap

I don't think the roofrails are much cop for carrying any sort of real load....just get a pair of Thule roofbars instead...simple to fit and remove and you can carry a house on top.....I mean you still got to get bars for the rails anyway, or is it just a cosmetic tart-up we are talking about here? :kissy

my reason for adding original bars is:

on a short wheel base the thule ones sit too close together and as it's a commercial it has no 'lip' for the top clamp to sit in at the top of the back window. I already have 5 loose thule bars that i intend to adapt to bolt between the two.

if it ere a LWB i agree with you entirely.

aha! :thumb2

Blimey that was a bit Alan Partridge of me wasn't it....!

Are there thule type bars that work on the terrano without roof rails for carrying a roof box etc?

yes there are usualy a few on ebay, but on a swb you can't get them to sit very far apart. :thumb2

Ah ok got ya are they fairly secure as i would like the option of having a roof rack but dont want the hassle of drilling holes in the roof etc to fit rails?

thule is one of the biggest names in the roof rack industry. They even make the original factory fit ones so i assume they must be pretty good :thumb2

My T2 has fitted roof bars and they have Nissan in large letters and Thule in small letters. The maximum weight for them is a paltry 55kg though.

I don't know if they were an extra option or fitted as standard to the 'sport' models. Quite frankly I can't see any difference with the other models though!
