I believe now you can use AM and SSB on EU 40 channels now with 10w PEP and even maybe on UK 40 which is more inline with what Europe can use. :clap

FM is still 4watts but the chances of actually being caught and fined for using more are basicly zero.

wow cheers wasnt aware of this, located this section on wiki page

SSB and AM legalisation[edit]
Following most other European countries, Ofcom proposed to adopt European Communication Committee Decision (11)031 in October 2013.[19] This would permit the use of Single Sideband and AM operation on the CEPT CB radio band,[20] and Ofcom proceeded with legislation to this effect on 27 June 2014.[21]

Furthermore a recent cross forum/website vote took place and new recommended calling channels have been suggested:[22]

AM - Calling Channel 14 (27.125Mhz)

SSB - Calling Channel 27 (27.275Mhz)

FM - Calling Channel 31 (27.315Mhz)

Over the first weekend of legal AM/SSB (27th, 28, 29 June 2014) a 'Big Multimode Net' event was organised by the UK CB radio community starting at midnight on the morning of 27 June 2014. CB radio operators up and down the UK stayed up late to be part of the event. Many contacts were made and the event was seen as a great success. Some operators made videos and posted them to video sharing sites such as YouTube.[citation needed]

The new AM/SSB legislation only permits the use of new and approved sets, not 'legacy' multimode sets.

Feel free to hijack, this cb chat does my head in... I'm trying to learn.

I was in the Terrano just now listening to some old boys talk about arthritis and their medication crystal clear, however, either they are ignoring me, or they can't hear me... Why would this be? :nenau:nenau:nenau

if they weren't on breaking channel 19 they might feel were on a private channel effectively.

they might both be a long way away with amps so wont here you. though you might
struggle to enter conversation.

i used to say breaker break until one asks you in to chat, then use courtesy to ask if may join them etc

Ah so they may have huge boost? And although I can hear them I am too far away to respond?

Can somebody translate the last three posts please:lol

SWR = standing wave ratio, it is a measurement of how much of your available transmitting power is actually being transmitted as opposed to being reflected back down your antenna to damage or blow your output transistors, it is sorted by adjusting the length of your antenna etc, Rick

Aw man. Listening to two strangers talking about their arthritis medication....... [emoji30] that's bad enough but you wanted to join in?!
Somebody....... Help....... Me........ Please....... I need to know why your brakes aren't working.. [emoji55]

these guys usually have relatively low power but massif directional antenna on high up polls (I mean high up) and they turn them to their mates for a chat, London to Birmingham is easy and if you happen to be in the direct line you will hear both sides of the chat, but your signal will only get usually a few hundred yards, Rick

My old home set up Alex was a 21ft silver rod aerial was on top off a 22ft scaffy pole which was lifted around 5ft off the ground:lol

only problem with that is your measly 5 watts was being radiated in all directions including into the ground and the ionosphere, these guys use massif yagi antenna or other such highly directional ones then set it accurately facing the guy he needs to chat with, and visa versa, Rick

Blimey, lots to learn. We are going to west Wycombe hill Friday to have a play :lol
