So got my cb fitted today, don't understand all the dials and adjusters but it changed colour :naughty :augie

On the way home on the motorway I heard two people talking about cheese, Stilton and Edam... I Kidd you not.. :lol:lol

The set up he has done, he reckons I've got 10 miles :nenau

It's pushing 6 watts? :nenau

After a quick splash

70 quid for the lot, not too shabby.

Cb is worth that alone :thumb2

wow love look of that cb, has a ham feel to it.

must say thats a great position for it too. always been my plan to put
it there on old t2, then on trol there was a spare din under head unit.

upto now on t2 only had it in cubby box loose, but there on dash is
good for seeing display ans suspect speaker output.

would like to know what some of those buttons do.

have just searched for spec and just little wary as some
mention am as well as fm. for uk there is the original fm 40
from the 27/81 spec and the euro 40 fm added later. mine is
classed as 80 channel, 40 on uk and 40 on europe band.

also some spec suggests 10Watt output option be careful again
as in uk legal is only 4 watts as far as aware still.
for convoy work even fraction of 4 watts would be fine.

looks like full height stinger aerial, you might want to get a
shorter version as will be hitting trees and bushes....

I was doing 90 watts on the Laning weekend :lol
My burner weren't half getting hot

Alex have you had the Aerial SWR'd correctly otherwise you could damage the CB

advice from uncle briggie .........

check swr regularly ( keep it as low as possible )

learn to swear a lot

play music very loud on air

get a big linear amplifier ( 200w plus )

ignore everyone

you should fit in nicely then

Banshee. It my be good to use burner when trying to reach people miles away.
But when your 4 feet from each other your voice is so amplified it gets distorted and difficult to hear all that's said.
Can you not turn it off when lanin?
I got a 50 X burner but never fitted it. Might try it out.

But I like coming over the top of everyone :lol

The burner won't amplify the volume but the power output. Likely he is talking to close to the mic :thumb2

I believe now you can use AM and SSB on EU 40 channels now with 10w PEP and even maybe on UK 40 which is more inline with what Europe can use. :clap

FM is still 4watts but the chances of actually being caught and fined for using more are basicly zero.

I don't use CB (yet), but design wireless data networks of different kinds.

Would that would be four watts EIRP, so the total output from the final point? The antenna could add gain, so as a result you'd need to down-power the transmitter. Then the feeder cable (from radio to aE) will add decibel loss if it is a few feet long...

I tend to find it easier to work in dBm, even though it's algorithmic it is easier to calculate total power outputs.

I believe it is from the final point but they never do a exact 4w maybe 3.8 or 3.9 plus the antennas are not usually the most efficient being just a 1/4 wave antenna on most vehicles. I think you can't use a beam antenna on CB but many do for long distance stuff on SSB.

Ofcom don't really care much about the license free stuff anyway as long as you don't cause problems to others with interference.

With it being 27MHz, it would still be classed as HF band, meaning you could construct a half wavelength horizontal dipole for it, giving it epic range. Wouldn't work too well at night though.

I used to do voice comms in the Army, so HF was one of my favourite mediums to experiment with. 27MHz is quite high up in the HF band, so not very commonly used for military voice application. We favoured 2-5 MHz with SSB.

certainly could, I wanted to join the signals when I was younger but in the end didn't think I would fit into the Army way.

I have my amateur radio license and I've a owned a handful of the older military HF sets such as clansman prc-320, Racal 4051 and Philips MEL PRC-2000. :)

He plugged something in to it, and it was set at 1.1 I think... In the red is not good? :nenau

I've used the PRC-320 with a military phone-patch service, some 125 miles away. Have also sent data over 150 miles on one. Great bits of kit if you've got patience, masts, and a few hundred metres of copper cable!

He has used a SWR meter then Alex & the SWR is spot on:thumbs now after looking at your pic's i'm going to see if I have room under the top of the centre dash to put a couple of small bolts to mount mine as i'm not screwing it into the main dash if not it's going in the cubby hole & a fascia will have to be made up:augie
