Knocking on a rough road could be any of the bushes/joints on the suspension but the front anti roll bar drop links are very prone to failure and can be quite noisy.
Cheap fix though... :thumb2
As zippy said the steering lock stops clunk on full lock if not greased.
how much of a difference would 17mm make on the Vehicle posture . I took the measurements like the workshop manual tell you on section fa32 and fa 39 and as far as I can make out mine are 15mm where it say it should be 32mm .
Might be barking up the wrong tree here, but notchiness is normally Prop shafts, or possibly CV joints at the front.
Check your exhaust system, it runs pretty close to the body/chassis/engine in a few places, and it does not need to be far out to make a lot of noise when it hits. On mine one of the hangers had snapped, but it was not immediately obvious when you looked. It cased the exhaust to hit both the gearbox, and the back axle....
Ride ht won't be the cause of your issues.
Are these the issues you were on about the other day ? Have you checked top arm bushes and comp rod bushes ?
Low ride ht won't be the issue. So we're back to what we said last time, ie CVs etc Auto hubs turning the drive shaft?
They're the usual candidates to be fair. So what else ? Hmmm did you put too much grease in when you put them back together ?
As I said before, undo the hubs just to eliminate them from your search.
If the noise continues then poss CV
Drive shafts are easy enough but they are fiddly depending on how far you want to follow the manual:naughty
I can get mine out with just one ball joint off, but fiddly.
Looks mean diddly sorry mate. You'll have to jack it up and give it a heave ho and see what gives or not
As for shims, who knows till you take the top arm off, but that's only if you have camber'castor issues. You said the bushes were ok
Have you undone the hubs yet ?
Does the noise go away in 4x4 ?
