on mine when hot the rev counter sits about a needle width away from 500 rpm how far away from 500 rpm in terms of needle width does every1 elses sit at ,mine seems low when a/c is running it feels like it should be at that rpm when a/c is off if that makes senseThe stock mapping on a TDI should give
750-770 hot idle. 900rpm a/c on.
A very cold start will see upto 1400rpm dependant on coolant temp.
no matter what, hot, cold or wet, mine sits at around 750rpm i believe. even on the coldest day, it idles almost immediately at 750, rather then anything higher to warm it up first like most cars :nenau
ok when cold ur truck is idling faster than mine as mine will touch may be 850-900 when warm and at rest it idles round 600-700.put air con on and it sits around 700-750 so would you say my idle is too low then or is it right to me it should feels right when the aircon is on idleing with air con not running so if i could turn aircon on it would increase revs by 50-100rpm but there is no way of adjusting the idle of a fly by wire so could it be air flow sensor not giving right readings or does the ecu not care bout air mass meter when idling or could it be a f***ed ecu as if i try to read the codes and pull out the shorting pin from pin 1 and 8 the mil light will not flash if i leave the bridge in it will flash fault codes up which also means i cant clear the codes the way u should do as the bridge has to stay in place to read said codes ca any 1 help with this thanks.Managed to get acouple of small vids from my truck today. (it is not running a stock map, but the startup revs etc are stock)- just for comparisons sake.
Start from 'cold' at 18degC: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUSnXkkLZ84
hot start, decay back to natural hot idle speed, then at ~29sec it lifts as the a/c engages.

hitched up and ready to go (2t of mobile cattle race):

Off down (private road) uphill towing the race:

This was taken in 3rd gear, the boost gauge steady at 10psi intially which is set to preserve the clutch under 2000rpm and then the turbo start to whistle upto 15psi just before I lift off at the brow (gt2056s).
Can the idle speed be slowed, I fitted a Speedbox and if I turn the adjuster for power the idle speed goes just over1000 and seems too fast for my T2 auto, it wants to creep too much from standstill!
