Hello folks,

My Terrano 2 2.7tdi auto makes a bit of noise in reverse and I'd appreciate any advice or similar experience.

Basically, on take up of drive in reverse there is a mild initial knock noise from somewhere low down in the truck, maybe gearbox/propshaft area?

Could this be the propshaft knocking when rotating in the opposite direction (worn joints?), movement in the diff or maybe the reversing clutch (read there is one in the download manual)?

Gearbox oil level is ok, just passed MOT and no mention of any probs in that area (did have new drop link and anti roll bar though).

I'm not too worried, the noise isn't terrible and isn't getting worse, its just as you set off but would be good to know more and maybe fix it.

cheers,

Scott

Check your universal joints and see how much play is in them.

Reverse gear noise

hi Scott A
have a look at rear gearbox mount, very little clearance between top of g box and bodytunnel.
rgds.iandouglas

ps .mine also banged over rough ground or speed bumps.
