Lost reverse this morning, drove it home this afto and tried it again, no good
took the car down a local bumpy track and bounced it arround a bit and got reverse again, few yards gentle driving tried it again and once again no reverse. could this be a AT fluid level problem - I have never checked it and dont know where to look?
I have noticed a grinding noise (a bit like a circular saw in the distance) when reversing the last few days, but on finding that it is also present when I allow the car to roll in neutral I dont think its gear related, was intending to check the brake shoes and shims in the morning - but now need go get the reverse sorted first.

lost reverse 1995 terrano 2.7td

Found the dipstick and topped up the transmission, no difference. Started her this afto, got a little bit of torque in reverse, drove around the block and that little bit of torque dissappeared, so now I am none the wiser (except I have found that dipstick)
Only hope is that the garage will honour their warranty tomorrow, searched here for ages and nothing found that helps - unusally???

That Auto box

well here we are again, a month after I told the dealer the box was shot, I should be picking her up tomorrow, box gone back in today so test drive and I should get a call first thing to bring the £1500 and pick her up.
Warranty what warranty, all I have from the garage owner is threats and they have shut up shop, so the matter will probably end up in court, in the interim I have to pay the gearbox specialist (and yes they give a full year on the box)

Anything in particular to look out for when driving a rebuilt auto for the first time?

not really, just get on with it.....how long had you had the car before it failed? Trade seller has at least six months legal responsibility.....

5 months. I paid the full asking so I qualified for their full 12 warranty, they claim that as they have shut up shop and are a ltd company they cannot be touched - but I do know that:>
1. the company has not been officially wound up.
2. that they have another company, into which the proceeds of the last 18 months trade have been banked. (aka money laundering)
3. both companies that were operating from the same site (same directors and both registered as motor trade) are indeed solvent.
4. Companies house will not allow a solvent company to escape its debts.

Now all I have to do is get the information into the right hands, without them knowing how I got it.............................

I thought most car sellers did the warranty throught a third party?

Well got the call this afto, drove the 25 miles into Bristol to pick the car up, home again 2 hours later.
First thing I noted was that I have a new dash light - ATP - never saw that before, goes off when I move to d or rev so I presume that is parking brake?
driving is way smoother, lower revving and much better on hills - time will tell.
looked under once I got home and there is a bit of a damp patch on the lowermost point of the transmission, wiped it off, will check and see if it gets wet again, could be due to spills on reassembly
first impressions - much better, only time will tell if it was money well spent

dave , if its not ok , there may be a gearbox available soon

thanks mate but it has to be ok, after paying out so much money, could have got a 2nd hand one from A1Nissan parts dealer.

checked underneath today, no sign of any more oil.
