replacing starter motor

hi mate, it's a bugger of a job, but the best way to get to them it through the wheel arch, be removing the wheel and inner arch liner, i pulled mine up out through the side of the engine where the brake master cylinder is

First of all welcome to the best site for all things Nissan 4x4, and of course Ford Mavericks.

I am sure several members will be able to give you some tips on this one.
I think one of the fixing bolts is a bit of a pig to access, but can be done.

easy ish.

ok, jack the car up starter motor side, remove the wheel, remove the liner and BAM, there it is.

so, you now have access to the two bolts holding the starter in, and the connections. Disconnect battery of course, and unplug the connectors.

undo both bolts and remove, starter is now free. You have two options. remove through wheel arch (you may have brake lines in the way, but you can unclip them to give a bit of movement) or you can pull it out through the top. Both are awkward. If you twist and turn, you can easily pull it out through the top with a little help from a friend who should help hold it through the wheel arch as you maneouvre it. Thats how i did it.

it IS a bit of a bitch if you dont remove anything else like I didnt, but perfectly do able. The reverse is so much easier however.

ensure you tighten those bolts up good!

as said - remove wheel and liner. i usually unbolt both bolts from side (14mm rachet spanner makes the job better) and pull the starter up to the top of the engine bay. be careful of fuel lines etc.

These ratchet spanners are so useful, you don't know how useful till you start trying them.

I bought a set from Aldi last year.... brill.:thumbs:thumbs
But don't use them to break the initial grip, I don't think they will take it as well as other spanners, or a socket set.

I haven't had any issues, but you never know.

i have a set af aldi ones! they are strong- i have abused them and a lot of use, the full set is still good!

i think when i did mine, I used my ratchet to crack the nut loose. I used and extension and a hammer, gave it a whack, then used my ratchet spanner for the rest. The bolts are quite long, so the spanner is better for the job.:thumbs

you do not say if it is a 2.7 D or a 2.4 P the petrol is a lot easier to do, Rick
