I want to remove the EGR function.
But im not quite sure where this valve is.

Is it the on between the intercooler and the intake manifold or the one behind the engine (between the engine and the coupe)

And what to i do to remove it?

If you got illustrating pictures, it would help alot :)

The car i a Terrano 2.7 TDI 97'

Im another one who wants to remove the EGR, will it still pass MOTs?

When I rebuilt my TD27 engine I found that my original engine with the bosch pump and bosch maff didn't have an egr valve as the inlet manifold was left blank ,where as the engine with the Zexel pump and hitachi maff I bought for parts did have an egr.............HERE

Has anyone with A di xtrail tried to blank egr valve :augie

ok i dont have a nissan at the mo , but ive had my two egr valves completely removed and replaced with blanking plates on my 1992 isuzu bighorn 3.1... its made a heck of a difference to the power ! , the turbo seems to spool up at lower revs and seems smoother running too , but i know nuffing so it might have different effect on other trucks

You can't blank the egr on my saab 93 and you should has seen the shite in it when I took it off to clean it....an absolute mess of sooty-tar gunge.

i heard somewhere mots this year might check the operation of said egr valve and c if it hasnt been tamper with also the were looking at the tune it type boxes but it was only a maybe so dont no if they will bring it in or not also might be only for 2001 or newer cars:nenau

Flick of a switch and my Tunit is out off , simples:D
As for EGR blanking, well I wonder how they can tell if I'm running bio and lpg as there's no emissions to speak of anyway :nenau

Hi all,

Think I might have a problem with the EGR on my 1995 2.7 TD

Lumpy starting with a cloud of blue greyish smoke. Misses a bit at first til it clears but runs fine after a minute or two and doesn't seem to smoke at all after.

Thought it might be the glow plugs - I had similar symptoms last winter and replaced two 2 which were definitely dead, so changed the other two but on a meter they seem OK and the symptoms persist.

So next thing may be the EGR from what I have read. My guess is it is stuck open. It may explain the slight lack of power & fuel consumption as described elsewhere here.

I can seem the damn thing, but can anyone give any advice on how to remove it ???? I have looked in the workshop manual but can't see it.

Hold on there buckeroo
Check your glow plug relay first as it sounds much more like it to me :sly
It's inside the o/s wing to the left of the battery as you look at it. Could also be corroded wires at the same place.:thumbs

This is EXACTLY the symptoms of failed / ageing glow plugs.

Thanks for the replies.

OK, thanks. Will do.

As I said, I replaced two last year and the other two just recently but when I did, it made no difference whereas when I replaced the first two the difference was immediate.

The original two were as dead as with no continuity, but the two I just replaced seemed to be OK. So it has four plugs all less than a year old. Will check them all again in case.

Still would like to now how to get the EGR valve off - worth checking in any case.
