I'm doing my gearbox oil tonight as I'm off to the Isle of Wight tomorrow until Sunday, camping with the Mrs

I've heard that on some Mavericks and Terrano's can be refilled by removing the gear stick and pouring straight in, will i be able to do this on my TDi?

Weirdly I just bought some gear box oil today too.

I was going to use the usual plug with a bit of tubing or hose - if I get a long enough bit probably could have bottle / start of tubing in engine bay to aid / gravity fill it up.

But if there is an even easier way of doing something with gear stick out - im all for it.

I found it easiest to go in through the engine bay with a length of hosepipe & a funnel. Run the front wheels up on ramps (or jack the front up & support on stands?). You can then get the extra litre or so in that's recommended here without any worry of it spilling :thumb2

Yep thats the way to do it 'simples' :thumb2

I've just drained and changed mine. Drain plug was very tight big 1/2 drive breaker bar sorted that. I used a hose down to the gbox very easy to do. Managed to get four litres in mine before getting covered in oil.

Cheers Gav

If the drain plug's really tight, a gentle warm-through with a gas torch on the surrounding casting will help free it. I had to do that on my front diff' as some idiot had monkeyed it

Put oil in pump up sprayer and remove the end off the sprayer hose!

I did mine the way quixote said and it was very painless :thumbs

I managed to get the full 5 litres in mine when it was on ramps and then a little dribbled out but I had a bucket underneath to catch it
