hi guys posted a question a while ago regarding rear wiring
i have bee trying to repair and keep getting faults.
te wires to rear lights are rotten and i was going to try and renew fom inside the car.
when i take the nearside rear panal off does the wire go from there down and through a grommett to outside of car.
when i put my hand up behind the bumper i can feel a little box which i assume is part of the wiring.
is there any pics anywhere so i can get an idea of what i need when i go to breakers yard

also someone said they had moved their towing socke to the back step is there a picture of this as i am looking for ideas to keep towbar electrics out of the water

cheers

as you see from the pic there is more room for electrice on the right side of the step. but without thinking i put mine on the left

but still works fine and you cant really see it let alone knock it off

wires

cheers guys

did you just put a hole through there with a hole saw it looks as though spare wheel protects it and it is high enough to keep out of puddles as i think this is where my problems started.

there is a large puddle where we keep our horses and we have been driving through it for last 8 or so years.
only reason we dont repair road is because it stops boy racers coming up farm road with there lowered cars andwe get peace hee hee

just disconnect from old socket them thread behind bumper , you will find go straight up by hinge side of door then along the top and tuck it in. just drill a hole big enough for the wire. where you want it then thread through from back..... new socket ............job done

hay extreme, is the socket fixed to the bumper or the metal bit behind it too??

wires

guys looking at the manual it seems that i may only need chassis harness
does anyone know if this just plugs in to the main one it looks like it in the pics but i m no electrician is it easy to remove
cheers

what section and page you looking at, ill have a look too. Ive got it ALL printed out... 4 A4 binders..

i think Toolbox or Terranosaurus WILL know more than me....

Hi Fraz, you mention a box behind the bumper. I'm not sure what this is but it doesn't sound like something that would have been fitted from new. I think it would really benefit you to remove the bumper and check the wires for your self, it may possibly be something that someone else has repaired the car with. It seems unusual for the original wiring loom to become so corroded. I really think you need to remove the bumper to allow you to see exactly what's going on. Also remember your vehicle may well have subtle differences to UK spec T2's. I think you are doing the right thing by getting hold of a rear section of wiring loom from a breakers yard and then making joints inside the car. Try taking photo's perhaps and posting them on here as someone may be able to tell you what the box is.

Thats a good idea Jim T , pics are always good, to find stull out and to help people who follow. um is the box where the tow electrics join the normal loom?

wires

zippy im looking at el 247 for main harness
el 286 for chassis harness

is it easier to see all this with rear bumper off
if so i will look up on manual and remove to see what i got

cheers

i wouldn't move the bumper i doubt you will see anything anyway most of the essential wiring is inside the body of the truck. you would be better served removing the trims from the boot area

doh

ok i wont remove rear bumper but it looks s though the bit i need runs from one side to the other can i just climb under and remove this or is it inside the chassis
cheers

from looking at mine it apears all the joints etc are around the passenger brake light and behind the plastic wall area on the passenger side

this could be opposite on a misteral if they share the same loom

hi there

got right in behind the rear lights and up in corner behind bumper what i thought was a little box turns out to be 2 plugs.
the loom that goes from there and runs along chassis to driver side lights is the bit i need including the little looms with the bulb holders as these have rotted away
i have stripped it out and it was easy enough

problem now is there are n breakers local to me with a maveick or terrrano

any ideas where i coud get one of these

cheers

zippy

part required is chassis harness page in manual EL-286

it plugs in behind the lights on bumper in corner of passenger side.
