I won a rear spoiler on FleaBay, and it arrived today...

Good news, it is even in the right colour green, so there is no need to re-spray it.

Bad news, the LED stop light has some LED's out, so about to set to work fixing them.

A couple of questions, should it have any form of gasket between it and the car, I was thinking of making up a rubber one, or would using tiger seal be a better option. Secondly, are the locations for drilling the fixing holes marked in anyway on the car, I have not looked yet, but also I have never noticed them in the past.

The one I've got in the shed from James has foam both sides, that will stop any vibrations against the back door and will stop any paint wear.

No markings unfortunately, measure, measure and measure again :thumbs

Thanks for that... Think I will keep the box and make up a template...:augie

An old bike inner tube can make a nice gasket:thumbs as for mounting get a large bits of cardboard put the spoiler on it & draw around it & cut it out then you will have a template to line it up on the back door to mark the holes you'll need to drill:thumbs

I have just spent an hour making up the card template, getting it perfect, so can have a go at fitting it tomorrow. Not looking forward to drilling those holes though, all 4 go through a real awkward bit of the door frame, so I envision the odd snapped drill bit, if it hits that rounded double skin bit.

I don't know anyone with a bike, to get old inner tubes off, mind you, we have many of those Lycra Clad fluorescent targets driving round our lanes at silly speeds on Sunday mornings, I could go out and see if I could catch a couple of them, steal their wheels and throw the rest back... :augie:D

I have some of that automotive sticky foam which I have used, but I will keep my eyes out next time I go to the tyre fitting place, and see if they can save me an old tractor tube to keep on hand for future use, thanks for the suggestion.

Poundland flog them mate :thumb2

Really.. I have never seen them in there.... will have to look next time we go in... there is an irony, that they sell the puncture repair kits as well at the same price... DOH

An inner tube was just a thought if you had one but a thin skim of tigerseal would work fine if you have some. Been wanting a rear spoiler for years:augie you might find the rear window doesn't get as much spray on it due to the air flow off the rear of the roof changing after adding the spoiler but on the other hand it could be the same:nenau

Just seen this thread :doh
What a fuss to stick a spoiler on
All you need to do is stick a load of masking tape on the roof area where you want your spoiler. Then hold the spoiler in place and drawer round it with a pencil. Then cut the masking tape away from where the spoiler will be. Then squidge a load of Tigerseal there. Then bolt down your spoiler and finger off all the excess goo. Remove tape, job done :thumb2

Right.... er.... maybe not....

For starters it goes on the door, not the roof... and secondly, I was trying to draw round it to make a template, but the shape of it means you can't get a pen near half the places it touches the body, and the idea of trying to get masking tape covered with tigerseal out of those gaps terrifies me...

I'll stick to slowly, gently, measure, measure again,
go and have a cup of tea,
measure again,
Pop back in and use the Loo
Measure again...
Consider having another cup of tea
Get the drill out and spend an age deciding whether to start off with 4 x 2mm holes and then open them up, or just go for the right size straight from the start.
Go and get another tea
Measure again
Drill first hole
Cry because now there is no going back,
drill the other holes...
Offer up Spoiler
Curse
Gently file all the holes into slots as they are all 1mm out...
Offer up spoiler.
paint the holes...
Cuss because the paint is taking so long to dry it's now started raining again.
Call it a day, and try re-painting tomorrow, and then fit...

I think that is about right:lol

Oh alright then :lol
I didn't realise it was a door one.In that case just quick clamp it on :thumbs
Even easier
Acetone is king :naughty

I put mine on a few months ago now, it had a few bits of foam left on it but scraped it all off and used tiger seal.
As for the holes - start of small, your right it does come through on an awkward edge of inside of door but still outwith the rear door seal.
Take your time, will be fine.
Ps. Yep, that first drilled hole is nerve racking.

Looks good...

Mine is identical, but I managed to get one with a LED brake light built in as well, so there is an extra hole to drill.

I did the dirty deed today, and only 1 hole was about 1mm out, so opened all the holes up to 7mm, and filed the errant one over a little more. The extra hole for the wire comes through in the channel round the window, so nicely inside, to connect straight to the brake wire that is already there.

I had to fix the Brake light, it had got water in at some point, which had rusted away a resistor, taking out 5 LED's. After carefully separating the LED unit from the lens, I was able to get the LED bar out, and replace the resistor. I have some "liquid electrical tape", which is like a paint on rubber coating, and basically covered the whole PBC, and the base of each of the LED's to make it water proof, and then re-assembled it all. Works a dream now.:clap

I could have done with a spoiler on mine when the son-in-law backed my T2 into a tree and dented the top of the door and smashed the rear window, probably wouldn't have cost that much to find a new one, rather than the 670 euros that it cost my Spanish insurance company, which no doubt they will recoup when my renewal comes up in March!

Will try and get some pictures tomorrow, I was busy doing a few odd and sods jobs, like making up my new rear work lights today, ready for fitting.

How come the spare wheel did not hit it first?
