In a nutshell this doesn't work on mine and hasn't since I got it. My question is:
Is the switch just a push to make circuit and the light illuminates and heater works thermostatically, cutting out when screen is clear, or does the switch actually click on and then click off manually?

The fuse is fine, wiring intact but haven't got properly stuck in yet with the multimeter. Just wanted to clarify the switch mechanism before I did.

You need to check the voltage at the screen first.

If there is a bad connection between the glass and the connector on one side, do not attempt a repair at the glass side.

A friend of mine pushed in the connector between the glass and the rubber on a Vectra rear screen, he said " It's working" :thumb2

We got 4 miles down the motorway at 70 mph and the rear screen "Exploded" into thousands of pieces.

I assume this was caused by a local hot spot at the connector which set up stress in the glass.

Tip:
wear safety specs if messing with connections on the rear screen.

Can anyone confirm whether the switch clicks on and off or just pushes please?

If it's any help, on my 96 TD it pushes in and stays in a bit, with an orange light in the centre of the switch, so I would say it clicks on and off i.e. when pushed in to the on psition, it does come back out a bit but not fully, push again and it comes out flush with the other switches. Hope this is clear to you as I'm confused LOL

Just as Liam says. Push button in, warning light comes on and, AFAIK, it stays on til you switch it off.

OO you're right :D
I found mine strategically hidden behind my CB mike :lol
Pressed it and the light came on but I doubt anyone's in :homer

Mine goes off after about 20 minutes, seems to know when ithas done its job
