Rear glass panels

Im thinking of swapping over the rear glass from my Terrano to the Maverick. Reason is that the glass is already tinted from the factory.

Rear windows is simple enough but is it worth the rears? Has anybody successfully removed the panel glass/rear door glass, then reinstalled others and got them to seal correctly.

My main concern is bonding them or sealing them back in without leak and not breaking any of them. Just wondered if it was a one of those jobs where tinting the existing windows make alot more sense as I will have to remove 2 sets then refit one of them.

Didn’t banshee remove glass boot side windows and fit metal instead and end up with a stack of problems. Not exactly same as your idea but might come across similar problems

Have you tinted windows before using film?

It's actually not that bad to do & with the back door opening as it does it'll be even easier.
A little tip if you do diy using film is use a little baby shampoo instead of washing up liquid in the water.

the door windows are easy enough, but the fixed ones are best tinted in situe, Rick

I did have a go at the boot windows once, failed miserably. Its not apparent but the glass curves both ways making it more difficult. Also quality of Film is relevant, you could always get it done for you by dedicated Tinters.

Ive never tried tinting before but may give it a shot. I can always remove it if it ends up looking bad. Will get some quotes off local professionals and see where they are.

Shame I thought I would be able to swap all my glass over nice and easy.

The only thing you have to worry about is the rear bonded window and cheese wiring it out, the cleanup job is the worst getting rid of the old sealant when you come to bond the windows back in.

I have to agree, I have done it once, and wasted as much tint as I used, and hated the finished result... payed a professional on my V70 and it was worth every penny.

You inspired me to finally have my windows tinted. I have done tinting on several vehicles before, but quite a few years ago when you could do all but the windscreen in Limo without the Rozzers bothering you.
I had a look around & there seems to be lots of cheap film around & it's cheap for a reason I thought I'll go for the more expensive stuff, but who's to say it's not the same as the cheap stuff :nenau
So I rang a few local companies & I have a guy called Andy coming to mine on Tues afternoon to do my truck for £140.00 :thumb2
It's guaranteed workmanship so hopefully it'll last.

I'll post some pics of the results to keep the Mr Zips of this world happy :thumb2 :lol

I found the above product which seems to be pre cut tinted panels that fit into the recess off the window. No good to you if your are having the rear windows done as they stay in place when you lower the window? If its just the back three panes then you can swap them vehicle to vehicle.

Bit pricey but just an idea. As im going to put the tinted rear window from the Terrano into the Maverick I only need to think about the boot area. So something cheaper is probably availible. But you cant beat a proper job if your looking to keep the truck.

Are the windows in the Terrano up to year 99 the same size as 2000 onwards?
With mine being a 2003, would the Solarplexius in the link fit mine?

They look cool, but it would be nice to know what happens when you roll the rear windows down
